Hydro characters have formed a core part of the game ever since its inception in 2020. What started as a role centering around support characters and healers have now transformed into an element housing the strongest damage dealer in Genshin Impact
Keeping that in mind, this Hydro character tier list will try to ascertain how each one of them stands as of version 4.4 of the game by taking the usage rate in the Spiral Abyss for this patch into consideration.

Hydro character tier list for Genshin Impact version 4.4

The game’s meta is constantly changing with each update adding new characters and artifacts that influence and alter the playstyle of older playable units. The list below is based on how each of these characters performs in the Spiral Abyss, the game’s most difficult content, which serves as an index to determine which characters are worth it. That said, let’s dive into the rankings for the Hydro characters.
SS-tier

The character in this tier is the strongest Hydro character in Genshin Impact: He is none other than the Chief Justice of Fontaine.
- Neuvillette
Genshin Impact had good Hydro DPS options, but lacked a solid damage dealer for a long-time. Yelan and Xingqiu, who acted as sub DPS or supporting characters generally took the cake for being Hydro attackers. But that changed when version 4.1 introduced Neuvillette.\
He has the capacity to clear the hardest content in the game on his own and is an extremely powerful character who can buff himself.and dish out a constant stream of Hydro damage.
S-tier

The S tier consists of very strong characters who provide various bonuses.
- Furina
- Yelan
- Xingqiu
Furina, Yelan and Xingqiu act as both offensive off-field damage dealers and provide useful buffs to the teammates. Furina is considered as the best buffer in the game and both Yelan and Xingqiu provide off-field hydro application that coordinates with a character’s normal attacks. This helps the reaction teams for Yoimiya, Hutao and a lot of other units.
A-tier

Characters in this tier are very strong. Though they do not hold a candle to the previous tiers, they still manage to hold on their own in the game’s current meta
- Kamisato Ayato
- Childe/Tartaglia
- Kokomi
- Nilou
Both Tartaglia and Ayato are very powerful DPS characters who are capable of dealing a lot of damage. Nilou on the other hand is a bit niche as she is focused on the Bloom reactions. But her ability to trigger Dendro-cores constantly makes her one of the best characters for Bloom/Hyper Bloom setups
Kokomi needs no introduction. One of the most overlooked characters in the game currently reigns as the strongest healer and one of the best hydro applicators in Genshin Impact.
B-tier

This character is not bad by any means and you should definitely build her if you lack Furina or Kokomi.
- Mona
The astrologist residing in the city of Monstadt has fallen off from being one of the most coveted characters in the game. While she still provides a huge buff and has decent Hydro application, she has been completely powercrept by units such as Furina and Kokomi.
C-tier

Sitting at the lowest tier, these characters are the least used in the game and has been overshadowed by other units in Genshin Impact.
- Candace
- Barbara
Both of them do not provide anything out of the ordinary. Candace is a decent buffer but if you have Xingqiu, it is better if you build him instead. Barbara provides decent heals but her tendency to apply Hydro on on-field characters is annoying against Cryo enemies. The existence of Bennet has also spelled doom for her as Bennet can buff damage and heal at the same time despite being in the same rarity as her.
Players should always build the character they like. The game gives you enough material to grind and it is quite casual so that you can have fun using your favorite characters while exploring and fighting enemies.
