Roblox’s The Hatch event for 2025 is currently underway, but there’s also a controversy known as #BoycottTheHatch, which is already trending hard.
For this event, you need to make your way into participating games to collect eggs. Once you’ve completed your collection you get a set of rewards that you can use to modify your character.
Keep in mind though, that most of these items are cosmetics only and will never give you any competitive advantage whatsoever.
The controversy however, isn’t because of this at all. Instead, this backlash is over how unsafe the platform has become for a younger audience over the years and how the authorities haven’t done anything to correct it.
The entire incident has come up after Roblox unbanned a creator called TheOfficialTeddy. Players have accused that the individual has created experiences which have mature themes.
And while the platform had banned him after multiple user complaints, they promptly unbanned him too. Despite all this, he was one of the many creators invited to be a part of The Hatch event.
As the information spread, a lot of developers also started pulling out of the event. If you’re still new to this, the idea of the event is that you’d have to visit these experiences to collect these eggs.
Now, considering the creator makes some really suggestive experiences, players would have to visit these experiences too. This would expose a young audience to potential mature themes, and areas where online predators usually lurk.
While the developers pulling out didn’t want TheOfficialTeddy to be removed from Roblox’s The Hatch event, they wanted him outright banned for good.
The movement took wind and forced Roblox Corporation to look into TheOfficialTeddy’s creations. And after a lot of deliberation, the creator was finally banned from the platform.
While players and creators have appreciated the decision, they also believe that there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done to make the platform safe for all audiences.
