The Mercenary system in Diablo 4 is essential to the experience that Vessel of Hatred offers. From bartering gear with them to leveling them up through their own skill trees, there’s a lot that this system offers.
There are four Mercenaries that you can select from in the expansion, and it’s likely that the developers will add a few more in the coming days.
So, here’s everything you need to know about the Mercenaries in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred.
All Mercenaries in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred and how to unlock them
- Raheir
- Aldkin
- Varyana
- Subo
When you finally make your way to Nahantu, you’ll meet Eru who will eventually take you to the Pale Hand, who are a group of Mercenaries.
The first Mercenary available to you in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred will be Raheir, but you’ll have to complete additional side quests to unlock the other three.
These quests are as follows:
- Aldkin – A Nameless Mystery
- Varyana – A Slayer’s Retribution
- Subo – A Feather on the Scale
How many Mercenaries can you hire?
At any given point, you’ll have one primary Mercenary and a secondary Mercenary, who will act as your reinforcement.
As you kill monsters, you’ll earn Rapport, which is their reputation level, and Pale Marks, which can be a currency used in Bartering.
These Mercenaries also have a small skill tree that you can invest points in, making them more effective in battle in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred.
What is Bartering in Diablo 4?
Bartering is a trading system in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred, which is exclusively related to the Mercenary system in the game.

Once you’ve reached level 5 Reputation with a Mercenary, you’ll have access to the gear that they have. Although you’ll still need to purchase these pieces of equipment with Pale Marks, this is a handy source of gear in the game.
