Like most RPGs, Path of Exile 2 also features a robust selection of in-game currencies and items that can be used for a variety of purposes. Other than the usual Gold, certain currencies are used for upgrading equipment and adding Modifiers – which makes it all the more important to manage and grab them.

All currency types in Path of Exile 2
Main currency
- Gold: Can be spent on vendors, Gambling and to respec certain Passive Skills
- Orb of Transmutation: Used to transmute a Normal item into Magic tier with a single random modifier
- Orb of Augmentation: Confers up to two random Modifiers to a Magic item
- Orb of Alchemy: Adds 4 Modifiers, and transforms a Normal item to a Rare one
- Orb of Chance: Can transform a Normal item into Magic/Rare/Unique tier with random Modifiers
- Regal Orb: Converts a Magic item into Rare with a singular, random Modifier
- Exalted Orb: Adds in a random Modifier for a Rare item, up to 6 times
- Chaos Orb: Replaces an existing Modifier with a random, new one (not usable on Unique items)
- Orb of Annulment: Used to remove a random Modifier from an item
- Lesser Jeweller’s Orb: Adds in a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem slot; usable on Skill Gems with 2 Support Gem Sockets
- Greater Jeweller’s Orb: Adds in a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem slot; usable on Skill Gems with 3 Support Gem Sockets
- Perfect Jeweller’s Orb: Adds in a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem slot; usable on Skill Gems with 4 or 5 Support Gem Sockets
- Artificer’s Orb: Adds Sockets to Gear
- Arcanist’s Etcher: Boosts the Quality of Wands, Staffs or Sceptres
- Armorer’s Scrap: Boosts the Quality of Armor.
- Blacksmith’s Whetstone: Boosts the Quality of a melee weapon
- Glassblower’s Bauble: Boosts the Quality of a Flask
- Vaal Orb: Adds a random effect to an item; once used the item is corrupted and cannot be improved any longer
- Essence: Transmutes a Normal item into Magic tier, with one Modifier
- Greater Essence: Transmutes a Magic item into Rare tier, with one Modifier
Event specific currency
- Catalyst: Boosts the Quality of Rings as well as Amulets; exclusive to the Breach event
- Distilled Emotions: Adds additional Passives to an Amulet. exclusive to the Delirium event
- Omen: Adds abilities which can be triggered by specific conditions, exclusive to the Ritual event
Currency shards
- Artificer’s Shard: Combine 10 of these to create an Artificer’s Orb
- Chance Shard: Combine 10 of these to create an Orb of Chance
- Chaos Shard: Combine 10 of these to create an Orb of Chaos
- Exalted Shard: Combine 10 of these to create an Exalted Orb
- Regal Shard: Combine 10 of these to create a Regal Orb
- Transmutation Shard: Combine 10 of these to create an Orb of Transmutation
