Amazon’s Mass Effect “non gamer” Pivot Could Create a Disaster Like Halo

Amazon’s latest decision to make the upcoming live action Mass Effect series more appealing to non-gamers has irked fans of the franchise. The entertainment industry is evoled to such a degree that it’s not uncommon to see video game adaptations in the live action space.

Although this is done to appeal to a wider audience base, it makes things difficult because not all series remain true to their video game counterparts.

The only exception to this would be The Last of Us series. But, if one were to look at adaptations like Borderlands, Fallout, or even Halo for that matter, they’ve completely missed the mark.

Could Mass Effect Fail Like Halo Did?

It’s difficult to say how the series will fare, considering it hasn’t made it to production yet. So one can only expect that the writers would do justice to it. However, considering the treatment that Halo received, Amazon is driving a hard bargain.

Additionally, individuals believe that Mass Effect has a storyline that can appeal to any audience, so changing it to appeal to non gamers is an unnecessary addition that could ruin the overall flavor.

Although it’s believed that Michael Gamble would be a part of the project to ensure that it remains authentic, fans have pointed out that individuals who’ve worked with the Fallout series, will also be involved.

This is somewhat controversial and a hard pill to swallow for most fans of the franchise. While Fallout was regarded widely as a successful venture, many gamers feel that the show strayed away from the overall flavor of the game.

This also highlights the possibility that the individuals associated with writing the script might not have played the game at all. It’s something that happened to Halo already, which ultimately lead the series to fall flat on its face.

Ideally, fans believe that the writers behind the original Mass Effect game should be the ones writing the script for the live action series. That would be the only way its originality could be preserved. However, what Amazon does with this feedback remains to be seen.
