Assassin’s Creed Shadows pets explained: Where to find & how to place

Alongside the main story revolving around Yasuke and Naoe, there are a myriad of things such as viewpoints and contracts to take up your time in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The side-content also includes pets who are an adorable addition to your base and help you get an achievement.

So, here’s a guide on everything you’d want to know about pets in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Where to find pets in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

You can get pets such as cats, dogs, macaques, grey herons, sika deers, foxes, tanuki, and more in the game through these ways:

  1. There are four types of traders in the game; Gear, Port, Ornament, and Food. The Ornament traders have a chance of selling you pets, so make sure to check them out.
  2. You’ll find wild animals roaming around the open world. If you’ve unlocked the Hideout by that point, you’ll be prompted to collect them as pets after interacting.
  3. The in-game store sells you certain animals.
  4. The open world also contains Sumi-e paintings. These are secret locations where you can hide and draw wildlife. Completing these paintings grants you pets.
  5. Some side quests also grant pets as rewards. An example is ‘Thrown to the Dogs’, a quest that was available to players who had pre-ordered the title.

  2. Open the Improve Hideout menu by pressing the designated key outdoors or interacting with the 3D model inside.
  3. Open the Build menu.
  4. The animals tab is on the far right. A list of every species and breed that you can add as a pet will appear under this tab.
  5. The outdoor area of your hideout will be represented in square tiles and the animal you select will take a tile or two based on its size.
  6. Place the animal in a valid location.
  7. As soon as you do this, you’ll get the Everybody Benefits! achievement. Whenever you go out, you’ll also be able to interact with the animal.
