Battlefield 6 to Abandon Server Browser For Better Matchmaking

With Battlefield 6, EA is aiming to improve the quality of matches by putting everyone through matchmaking.

While it’s hard to say how it might affect the gameplay once it launches, it should ideally help you get better matches by pairing you up with players, on servers close to you.

The developers have also confirmed that they’ll be holding onto skill-based matchmaking for now, to make way for fair games.

Battlefield 6 Will Include Skill-based Factors for matchmaking

As clarified by the Alexia Christofi, a producer at EA Dice who’s currently working on Battlefield 6, the game will include some form of skill-based matchmaking.

The idea of this form of matchmaking is a hot topic, and many players don’t like it, especially in competitive multiplayer games.

The idea of steamrolling through a lobby does sound fun but often comes at the cost of ruining the other players’ experience. This is exactly why skill-based matchmaking is important.

While the devs have repeatedly clarified that it’ll exist in the game, but they haven’t stated what factors it’ll take into account.

Additionally, the developers getting rid of the server browser system may seem like a bad idea at this moment, but it does help prevent bottlenecking on some servers while not being able to find games on others.

So, unless you’re looking for some specific matches, expect to be put in a matchmaking queue. When it comes to getting matches, it sure seems like there are a lot of layers to it.

However, this might help eliminate poor quality matches for good, but EA will have to compensate with creating multiple servers to ensure that players don’t get a high ping during games. It’s believed that the Battle Royale mode will also receive similar treatment in terms of matchmaking.

Bad ping can be annoying and can often cause games to lag, but with the open beta for Battlefield 6 coming soon, you can expect to see a first hand example of how all these systems work in tandem.
