There is a total of 17 Motes of Light in Destiny 2. One mote is located in the eight Traveler’s Visions while the other nine are obtained by completing the Overthrow boss encounters.
In the Final Shape expansion, each of the Overthrow zones has three bosses which you can reach at the end of each activity.
