How to get and upgrade Infernal Compass in Diablo 4 Season 5

The Infernal Compass is a core part of the Infernal Hordes mechanic in Diablo 4 Season 5. It’s a key resource that will help you with your endgame grind in the RPG as soon as you reach World Tier 3.

You will have a hard time progressing through the Seasonal Journey if you do not have a firm grasp of how you can make the most of the latest wave-based mode.

Here is a guide on everything you need to know about upgrading an Infernal Compass in Diablo 4 Season 5.

Diablo 4 Infernal Compass upgrade guide

Get Infernal Compass Diablo 4

To upgrade the tiers of an Infernal Compass in Diablo 4 Season 5 you will need to combine an Abyssal Scroll with it. When you wish to upgrade a tier you will find them both in your consumable inventory.

However, while you will be able to stack the scrolls atop each other, you will not be able to do the same with the compass. Each Infernal Compass comes with its own rarity, tiers, and modifications, because of which, they will take up one individual slot in your inventory.

Now, once you have made your way to World Tier 4 when you are around level 50 or above, you will consume an Abyssal Scroll. Each Abysall Scroll will increase the tier of an Infernal Compass by one. 10 is the highest tier you can reach with it, and you will gain the highest quality of rewards once you max it out.

So much of your endgame grind in Diablo 4 Season 5 will go behind farming for the Abyssal Scrolls and Infernal Compasses. You will not get a compass higher than tier 3 as a drop. However, while you may be able to craft one with better modifications at the Occultist, there will be limitations to how much better you can make it.

At the end of the day, you will have to keep upgrading them with Abyssal Scrolls, then run the Infernal Hordes dungeons, gather as many Burning Aethers as possible, and gain access to the best chests after defeating the Fell Council.

Infernal Hordes are a great way of farming Mother’s Gift in Season 5 and higher-tier chests will increase your chances of gaining some of the best Uniques for your class.

Best ways to farm Infernal Compass in Diablo 4 Season 5

You can start farming for the Infernal Compass in Diablo 4 after completing “The Eyes of the Enemy” and “To the Edge of the Abyss” seasonal quests. This will be active after you reach World Tier 3 and Locran will eventually lead you to the gates of Hell and hand you the very first Infernal Compass.

This will then unlock the Infernal Hordes mode for you in the game. These are some of the best ways of farming Infernal Compass in Diablo 4:

  • Helltides: You can gain Aberrant Cinders during Helltides and open Chests of Mystery and Chests of Steel. These will guarantee an Infernal Compass drop and will be one of the best ways of getting the lower tier of the item.
  • Nightmare Dungeon and The Pit: When you complete Nightmare Dugeons, you will have a chance to gain an Infernal Compass of a much higher rarity.
  • Whispers: Whispers also provide a 75% chance of gaining an Infernal Compasses inside Cache. This can serve as an alternative to Helltides.
  • Occultist: Another great way of obtaining Infernal Compass in Diablo 4 will be to craft it with Sigil Powder and Forgotten Souls.
