The Personality system is a unique mechanic in Digimon Story Time Stranger, which will allow your party to get OP fast. It’s an integral part of minmaxing your team, allowing you to have a much easier time taking on some of the hardest content that the JRPG has to offer.
However, the Personality system is not as straightforward as one chalks it out to be, and there are a couple of nuances to it that you will have to constantly keep in mind. So, today’s guide will go over how Personality works in Time Stranger, how it affects certain aspects of combat, how you can change a Digimon’s personality, and more.
What is Personality in Digimon Story Time Stranger?
Personality is a behavioral trait that Digimon come with when you scan and convert them in Time Stranger. There are four quadrants of Personalities, each denoted by a symbol based on the four crests that you will find in the original Digimon Adventure series.
Here are the four quadrants of Personalities and the crest that they are denoted by:
- Philanthropy: Denoted by the crest of Love.
- Valor: Denoted by the crest of Courage.
- Wisdom: Denoted by the crest of Knowledge.
- Amicability: Denoted by the crest of Friendship.
Each of these quadrants further hosts four personality traits, giving you a total of 16 traits in the game. The personality trait that your Digimon has will affect your Digimon’s stats, evolutions, and special personality skills quite a bit.
These Personality traits can be dynamically changed as you progress through the game. This is quite the opposite of what one experienced in the Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth series, where Personalities only had behavioral impact on a Digimon, not affecting its stats or combat in any way.

How does the Personality system work in Digimon Story Time Stranger
When trying to make the most of the Personality system in Digimon Story Time Stranger, here are a couple of things that you will need to keep in mind when it comes to Conversions:
- Every Digimon will have a base personality when converted. This will also determine the personality traits that Digimon can obtain down the line.
- Base personalities have the highest chances of being picked when converted. Hence, you will not be able to pick Adoring, Brave, Astute, and Compassionate if they are not “base”.
- Furthermore, your base quadrant has the highest chance of picking an alternate personality, with adjacent quadrants being equal to and less likely, and the opposite being the least likely.
- This means that a Devoted Digimon can never be Astute, Brave, Adoring, or Compassionate. However, it has a very high chance of being picked by itself, along with Tolerant and Overprotective being likely alternatives if Devoted is not picked.
- Similarly, if Philanthropy is not chosen, Valor and Wisdom personalities are likely to be picked instead.
Hence, you are more likely to get that Digimon’s base Personality when converting. However, if RnG does not favor it, then it will pick one trait from the same personality quadrant. If it doesn’t pick that, then it will pick one from the two adjacent quadrants, and if even that is not favored, then it will pick one from the opposite quadrant, which is the most unlikely.

Other effects of the Personality system in Digimon Story Time Stranger
1) Personality Skills

Apart from the stat boosts, Personality traits will also offer Personality skills. These are passive effects that will have some level of impact on combat. In the image above, you can see DemiDevimon having an Astute Personality and a Personality skill called Haymaker, which allows it to have a 20% boost to crit damage.
Personality skills can be learned over time. However, the new ones that you learn will replace the older ones. So make sure to go for the one that fits our playsytle and Digimon the best.
2) De-Digivolution

In previous Digimon Stories games, you will not be able to De-Digivolve a Digimon into its base form if you have not encountered and scanned the base form before. This means you were locked out of ever getting that form, if you have not naturally found it in the game.
Time Stranger lets you bypass the system a bit. If the Digimon that you want to De-Digivolve has the same personality trait as that of its base form, then you will be able to turn it into its base form even if you have not encountered it.
How to change a Digimon’s Personality Trait in Time Stranger
There are a couple of ways in which you will be able to influence our Digimon’s Personality in Time Stranger.
1) Talk to your Digimon after every four battles

After every four battles, you will be able to talk to your active Digmon. You will then get dialog options that will represent one of the four Personality Quadrants. Initially, when you talk to them, you will have all four quadrants; however, in subsequent conversations, you will likely get one.
When you talk to your Digmon, you will also be able to check their Personality trait before answering. There will now be a plus sign on the trait that is currently active on that Digimon.
Picking the dialogue options will let you play around with a Digimon’s personality traits and even get new Personality Skills based on the answers you give them.
2) Using the Digifarm

As you explore the game, you will come across certain items that you will be able to use in the Digifarm. This will let you train the Digimon that you have stored there in a specific way. Each of these items will help a Digimon gain a personality shift. You will then need to wait for some time for the training to complete ot spend some in-game currency to speed up the process.
