You will automatically unlock the Matte Black Style as long as you have the OG skin in your inventory. The method is a tribute to the legacy of Halo and the impact is has had on the Xbox console over the years.
There is no time limit for unlocking the style, and all you will need to do is play a game using your profile in one of the consoles. Additionally, it’s not mandatory to wear the OG skin for the match to count.
Can new players receive the Matte Balck Style Master Chief skin today?
While the process of getting the Master Chief Matte Black Style skin is pretty simple, many in the Fortnite community have stated that they did not unlock the skin even after following the steps. Unfortunately, Epic Games has confirmed that new players will not be able to get their hands on the cosmetic, in a recent tweet they shared:
“The Matte Black style for The Master Chief is no longer unlockable. This style is limited to players who purchased the outfit and played on an Xbox Series X|S prior to December 2024. Any purchases of the Master Chief made today can be returned without spending a Return Ticket if they prefer, by reaching out to Player Support”
So if you are new to Fortnite and have just purchased the Master Chief OG skin, you will not have access to his Matte Black Style right now even if you are playing the Battle Royale on an Xbox Series X/S.
