Guide to farming Monster Parts in Monster Hunter Wilds

As you get into High Rank and slowly make your way to the end-game loop you will want to start making different builds for your weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds. However, making the highest rarity armaments in the RPG will require a lot of monster parts, so you will need the proper know-how of monster materials if you want to make the most of your time.

So the guide below goes over everything that you need to know about monster materials, including where each part comes from and the most efficient ways of farming them.

Tips and tricks for perfecting your Monster Part farm in Monster Hunter Wilds

Here are some tips and tricks and things that you will need to keep in mind if you are looking to make the most of your time farming monster materials in Wilds:

1) Make the most of the Wishlist feature

Wishlist Monster Hunter Wilds

When you are looking to craft an armor or weapon, but do not have the parts for it, then you might want to use the submenu when you are at Gemma’s and put that armament on your Wishlist. Once it’s on the list, the monster that offers you the parts will have the wishlist icon on it notifying you that you will get the part from this particular hunt.

The monster will have the Wishlist icon on them when you see them on the map, or when you are checking all of your investigations and optional quests.

Moreover, when you go into the Wishlist section from the main menu you will also be able to see the specific monster parts that the armament needs and a brief detail on where it comes from.

2) Visit your Large Monster Field Guide

Large Monster Field Guide Monster Hunter Wilds

After you have added an item to the Wishlist and checked the parts you need and where they come from. You can then check the Large Monster Field Guide from the main menu to know even more about the specific part and how it’s obtained.

For example, if you are looking to make a Challenger Charm 1 as seen in the images above, you will need Rathian and Yian Kut-Ku parts. As the image shows, there is a shortage of Rathian Scale+ which is required to make it.

Now going into the Large Monster Field Guide we can select Rathian and scroll over to the “Obtainable Materials” section. Here we can select Rathian Scales+ which will show the drop rate of the material where the scales have a 20% of dropping as a Target Reward, a 50% chance of dropping as a wound break, and a 30% chance of dropping when you are carving the Rathian.

So the best way to get Rathain Scale+ for Challenger Charm 1 will be to destroy as many of her wounds as possible. Moreover, certain parts are exclusive to certain conditions, so you will want to check the guide to know if you are farming the monster right.

The Large Monster Field guide will also provide information on the monster’s weaknesses along with breakable parts and the best hit zones for every weapon type.

3) Equip skills that let you help get more monster parts

Flayer and Partbreak Monster Hunter Wilds

There are two skills in particular that will help you make the most of your time farming monsters for specific parts in Monster Hunter Wilds. They are:

  • Partbreak
  • Flayer

Partbreak is a returning skill from previous Monster Hunter games which makes it significantly easier to break large monster parts and increase the amount of damage you deal when destroying wounds with Focus Strike. From levels 1-to-3 the damage goes up from 10% to 20%, and then 30%.

Now you will want to pair Partbreak with Flayer. Flayer is a new skill that lets you have a much easier time inflicting Wounds. Moreover, you will also receive a non-elemental damage buff when you inflict enough wounds on the monster.

Both these skills combined form the perfect recipe for farming monster parts that are exclusive to wound breaks and part breaks. These will help you get your hands on a lot of additional monster materials by the time you round out the quest.

The best sets to give you the two skills when you do not have the decorations for it will be the Ajarakan Alpha and the Artian Alpha combination.

4) Trade crafting materials with NPCs

Village Item Trading Monster Hunter Wilds

Another convenient way of getting your hands on specific monster parts will be to trade them for other items from the various regional traders. Every region in Monster Hunter Wilds has item traders that you will be able to unlock by completing the various side quests that pop up at different HR levels.

Once you have them unlocked, you can then speak to Nata (instead of going to them directly every time) and select the “Item Trade” option. You will now find a list of all the traders that you have unlocked.

Each trader sells something different and most of it will be hunting resources and cooking ingredients. But there are times when traders like Musharpeye will sell rare monster parts like the Aqua Sac for one Queensbloom Pollen.

So every time you are out exploring the open world and collecting a lot of resources along the way, make sure you are exchanging them for the parts that you need by interacting with Nata.

5) Use the Support Ship for more monster parts

Support Ship request goods in Wilds

Santiago, the Support Ship NPC can be found docking at the Windward Plains from time to time. You can interact with him and set his acquisitions to “Equipment Materials” and after a couple of hunts, he will return with monster materials that you will be able to purchase from him with Guild Points.

The parts he has on offer will vary every time he is in town, so check back every so often to see if he has the parts that you are looking for. Even if he does not have the parts that you need you can still buy all of them and then use the extra monster parts to meld, create armor spheres, or upgrade your Artian weapons.

6) Learn how Investigations work

Xu Wu Investigation Monster Hunter Wilds

As you check the map and scroll over to a region you will find a list of all the monsters that are present there and the items they will drop when you successfully hunt them. If you spot a monster and the bonus items that it provides is one of the crafting materials that you need then there are two options that you can go for:

  • Begin Field Survey
  • Set as Investigation

“Begin Field Survey” will automatically start the quest where you will need to immediately head out to hunt the monster. However, with “Set as Investigation” you get to add the hunt to your investigation page allowing you to complete it a total of three times.

So if you are farming a particular part from a monster, the best option will be to add the hunt to your investigations if you eventually get the bonus rewards that you are looking for. From the image above you can see a Xu Wu quest where it offers the Xu Wu Umbragem as a bonus reward for completion. if you add this hunt to your investigation you will be able to hunt the Xu Wu for that particular monster materials three times allowing you to rack up a good number of them.

7) Make it a habit to capture monsters instead of slaying them

You can get more materials from monster captures in Wilds

Like with previous franchise entries, capturing monsters will offer you additional target rewards in Monster Hunter Wilds as well. This means that by capturing monsters not only are your hunt times faster but you also get a higher chance of getting your hands on the rarer monster parts. So try making it a habit to capture monsters and not kill them if you are looking to target farm it.

However, there are a few exceptions to this when it comes to parts that are only obtained for carves. Moreover, if you are going for the Layer and Partbreak build you lose out on additional monster wound creations during the remaining 20% monster HP.

Also do keep in mind that you will need consumable traps and Tranq Bombs to capture monsters. Certain monsters will be immune to particular traps like Rey Dau is immune to shock traps, so to catch it you will need to heavily rely on your Pitfall Traps.

Note: Elder Dragons cannot be captured as they are immune to traps. So the only way to farm their parts is to slay them.

8) Use a Lucky Voucher

At the start of a hunt, you can also use a Lucky Voucher which will double the amount of monster materials you receive after completing the quests. Lucky Vouchers are obtained as a daily log-in bonus, and we recommend that you only use them at the very endgame when you need to target farm the high-level monster for Level 3 Decos and Artian components.
