How to add sockets to gear in Path of Exile 2

Gear with sockets are the easiest way to increase your characters power in Path of Exile 2. While there are a few pieces of gear that do drop with sockets, you need to be incredibly lucky to come across those.

However, to make your lives easier, Grinding Gear Games has a mechanic in place that will allow you to add these sockets to your gear irrespective of the class that you’re playing as.

So, here’s how you can add sockets to all your gear pieces in Path of Exile 2, especially if you’re a beginner and new to the franchise.

How to add gear sockets in PoE 2

To add a socket to an item in Path of Exile 2, you’ll need something known as an Artificer Orb. These items are hard to come by, but are the only way in which you can add gear sockets.

It’s worth noting that bigger weapons and gear can have up to two sockets, but charms, belts, rings and amulets cannot have any sockets in them.

Once you’ve added a socket, you’ll be able to add runes based on the ones that you have at your disposal. It’s worth noting that once you’ve added a rune to a socket, it’s permanently bound to that piece of equipment.

How to get Artificer Orbs in Path of Exile 2

Artificer Orbs are a rare drop in Path of Exile 2, but you can craft them too. However, to craft them, you’ll need something known as Artificer Shards.

You can combine 10 Artificer Shards to craft a single Artificer Orb in the game. You can get these shards either by picking them up as loot when they drop from monsters, or you’ll get them when you dismantle an item with a socket in PoE 2.

You’ll come across these items easily once you’ve reached Act 2, because that’s when the difficulty of the game starts amping up.
