Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has a lot of defensive combat mechanics like dodge, Sonic Sway, and deflecting beams that you will want to. These will let you avoid incoming damage and have a much easier time making your way through some of the hardest content in the arena fighter, like the Great Ape Vegeta boss.
Each of these maneuvers is pretty hard to pull off and you will need to invest some time in practicing them before you can comfortably use them in an encounter. Here is a guide that goes over how you will be able to perform a dodge, Sonic Sway, and beam deflection in Sparking Zero.
How to Dodge and Step-in Sway in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

To be able to successfully dodge an incoming attack in Sparking Zero, you will be required to press the R1/RB button. If you dodge right before an attack lands, you will do an evasion instead which will then open up more room for you to counterattack.
An advanced version of dodge is the Step-in Sway. You perform it by pressing X/A and then follow it with R1/RB. This is much harder to pull off but will provide you with more room to counterattack.
How to Deflect Beams in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

To be able to deflect beams like Vegeta’s Galick Gun you will need to press Triangle+Circle/Y+B as soon as the attack is about to hit you. However, deflecting beams are not free in Sparking Zero as the maneuver will consume two bars from the Ki gauge of the character.
If you do not have the required amount of Ki, then you will not be able to execute the technique and you will be hit by the beam.
How to Sonic Sway in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

Sonic Sway is the hardest maneuver to pull off in the game and will require a fair bit of anticipation from your end. You will need to trigger Super Perception by holding R1+Circle/RB+B as soon as the enemy is about to land a Rush Combo on you.
If you time it perfectly, you will be able to dodge each of the attacks and then counter the opponent. This will take up a lot of the enemy’s key as well, and you will be able to trigger the sway against Ki Blast as well, however, that will cost two Ki gauges.
But once you master the move, you will be able to breeze through the most difficult content that the game will throw at you.
