The Chainsaw is one of the most important tools that you will need to get your hands on as soon as you start your journey in Satisfactory. In the early game, you will not be able to utilize multiple power sources.
The one and only source in the start will be Biomass Burners, and to keep it up and running at all times you will need to feed it resources like wood, leaves, and plants. You acquire more wood, leaves, and plants by chopping foliage with the Chainsaw, which is why you will want to get your hands on this tool as soon as you land in any biome.
How to unlock the Chainsaw in Satisfactory
To be able to get your hands on the Chainsaw in Satisfactory you will first need to take the Obstacle Clearing Milestone to Tier 2. You will be able to do this right after finishing the tutorial part of the game and then completing the Obstacle Clearing Milestone by delivering the following items to the HUB terminal:
- 500x Screw (made from Iron bars)
- 100x Cable (made from Wire)
- 100x Concrete (made from Limestone)
Once you have the resources you will then need to transfer them to the HUB Terminal to automatically unlock Tier 2 of the Obstacle Clearing Milestone. This will then give you the recipe to make Chainsaw, and Solid Biofuel, and unlock more inventory slots.
You will be able to build your own Chainsaw in Satisfactory by using the following resources:
- 5x Reinforced Iron Plate
- 25x Iron Bar
- 160x Screw
- 15x Cable
How to use the Chainsaw in Satisfactory

To power up the Chainsaw you will need to use Solid Biofuel. This resource is crafted from Biomass which in turn is obtained from wood, leaves, and other foliage.
You will need to use the Chainsaw to cut trees which you will not be able to harvest by hand. Once you cut them down, you can obtain a lot more foliage which you can then use to make Biomass to fuel your Biomass Burners.
Once you have the Chainsaw equipped you will have access to two modes:
1) Area Mode:
When this is active tap the left click to make the tool harvest all viable objects in a 5-meter radius infront of you. However, do not that only the highlighted objects will be harvested.
2) Single Mode
With the single mode, the object that you highlight manually will be harvested. This mode is more about target harvesting a particular foliage and avoiding accidentally current down berry trees.
