How to separate monster herds in Monster Hunter Wilds

Some monsters hunt in herds in Monster Hunter Wilds, and to have an easier time beating one of them down, you will need to separate them. Separating a herd is quintessential when it comes to taking on monsters like the Alpha Doshaguma who are constantly surrounded by two of its own species at all times.

Monster hunts are much more manageable in 1v1 scenarios where you do not have to worry about too many incoming attacks from different directions.

So if you are looking to have an easier time hunting monsters who usually like to stay grouped in the RPG, then the guide below will help you out.

What are monster herds in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Monster Herds are a new ecological feature that has been introduced to Monster Hunter Wilds. Here monsters of the same species group up and travel by pack.

These heard are usually led by an Alpha, and you can distinguish the pack leader from the rest as they are considerably bigger and have more powerful moves in their attack patterns.

How to separate a monster herd in Monster Hunter Wilds

Here are some ways by which you will be able to separate Monster Herds to single out one target in Monster Hunter Wilds:

1) Use a Large Dung Pod

If you want to completely disperse a herd of monsters you will need to use a Large Dung Pod. Make sure to equip it from the item select wheel by pressing L1+Square/Circle and then use it with your Slinger tool to fire it right in the middle of the herd.

This will completely disperse all the monsters in a herd and they will run in different directions.

2) Using a normal Dung Pod

A normal Dung Pod is about singling out one monster frame in a herd. Use it by equipping it on your slinger and then fire it at the Alpha that you are hunting. This will force the Alpha to leave the pack and start running in a different direction. This will help you single out the target without disrupting the entire herd.

3) Firing a Luring Pod

A Luring Pod functions similarly to a Dung Pod in Monster Hunter Wilds. However, instead of forcing the affected monster to run in a random direction, they will come straight for you.

When you use a Luring Pod, a red line appears between you and the affected monster. As you make a run for it, the monster will follow your tracks, allowing you to very easily separate it from its herd.
