Adding new buildings to your Hideout and upgrading them requires resources, which players will have to smuggle in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. While it is most certainly possible to carry over small amounts of loot to your Hideout (while exploring the overall game world) – actual, more tangible upgrades take quite some time to complete.
As such, smuggling resources is your best bet to upgrade Hideouts, more on which can be found discussed below.
How to smuggle resources in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

To smuggle resources, make sure you have enough scouts to utilize first – at least two at minimum. The more scouts, the better. To replenish scouts, visit the Kakurega or swap seasons.
Once your scouts are secured, head on over to the desired location. Refer to the in-game map for the available resources in an area (visible under the Wealth status – ranges from High to Low). Try sticking to areas close to your own level, in order to avoid any unpleasant encounters.
Now, head on over to these locations yourself, and scan the area using Eagle Vision. Points of interest containing these resources will be marked in gold. Simply enter these regions and head close enough to the loot to trigger the ‘Smuggle Resources’ option.
Each resource requires a set number of scouts to smuggle it, which will be marked beside the loot option. Once assigned, these scouts will arrive at the destination to grab and transport the loot for you.
If the option is greyed out, you might need to wait until your scouts count gets replenished.
Keep in mind that certain resources are present behind locked doors, which can be a source of frustration. To unlock these doors, you will have to track down the guard holding these keys and assassinate them in order to obtain it.
Next, use the keys to unlock the door and grab everything.
