Ascension classes are sub-classes that each base class branches into after they reach a certain point of the narrative in Path of Exile 2. Every base class has several Ascendancies and each boasts a playstyle that is unique to their own.
Some of the skills and abilities tied to the Ascendancy can provide a huge power spike for the class. This will allow you to have more options when using Passive Skill Points and Weapon Set Points to optimize your build for the end game.
So if you are looking to know more about unlocking Ascension Classes in Path of Exile 2, the guide below will help you out.
Path of Exile 2 Ascension Class unlock guide: Trial of the Sekhemas

To unlock the Ascendancy for your character’s class, get to Act 2 and complete the Trial of Sekhemas mission. However, you will not be able to unlock the quest right away in the act, you will need to progress through the missions first, till you encounter Balbala. The boss can be found in Traitor’s Passage and will be a pretty difficult encounter.
Once you have taken out Balbala you will unlock Trial of the Sekhemas. This is a gauntlet run that has multiple rooms and a mechanic that is unique to its own. You will get an Honor bar over your character at the start of the trial.
It’s sort of like a health bar and will keep ticking down every time you take damage. If your bar reaches zero, then you will die and automatically fail the quest.
Apart from looking out for the honor bar, each room will inflict you with a particular debuff. This makes the trial even more challenging, however, if you can complete it you will finally reach a reward room.
There will be multiple chests here and you can use any keys that you have obtained during the trial to open them. There will also be an altar here, once you interact with it, you will receive two Ascendancy Points.
Note: If you are having trouble taking out Balbala or completing the trial we suggest that you complete the rest of the quests and missions in Act 2 first before tackling them.
How to farm Ascendancy Points in PoE 2
After you get your first two Ascendancy Points in Path of Exile 2, you will get two more when completing the Trial of Chaos. This mission is unlocked in Act 3, but to access it you will need to beat Xyclucian the Chimera, in Chimeral Wetlands first and obtain an Ultimatum.
The Trial of Chaos is a bit more challenging than the Trial of Sekhemas. However, there are a few differences in mechanics. Trial of Chaos has no Honor bar for you to keep an eye on, it also has no branching paths and you are rewarded with loot every time you clear a room.
You will get two more Ascendancy Points when completing this trial for the first time. After this, the only other way of getting more points will be to complete both trials again after Act 3 in Cruel Difficulty. It’s sort of like the NG+ fo Path of Exile 2, which will once again let you farm points as well as Permanent Stat Bonuses.
