How to upgrade item rarity in Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 lets you upgrade the rarity of multiple items as you progress through the game. Players can gain access to a total of four tiers, each superior over the other (Normal, Magic, Rare and Unique).

As is the usual with most RPGs, you will also require certain consumables in order to complete the upgrade process.

You can find a breakdown of the entire process below, along with a general description of these tiers in the rest of the article below.

How to upgrade the rarity of items in Path of Exile 2

You can transform items from Normal or Magic rarity using the Orb of Transmutation, adding in a single, random modifier in the process.

On the other hand, to transmute an item from Magic to Rare tier, you will need a Regal Orb.

Keep in mind that you cannot transmute a Rare item into a Unique one – Unique items come from specific sources and are not craftable in the traditional sense. Rare is most you can upgrade a Normal item into.
