The Healing Gourd is the core HP regen item that you will be relying on a lot in Black Myth Wukong. Especially at the very start of the game, where you have to learn the various gameplay mechanics, topping up your monkey’s HP is key in making encounters more manageable.
However, the Healing Gourd doesn’t heal too much of the missing HP in its base form. You will be able to upgrade it as you progress through the game and after unlocking access to the Shen Monkey.
Upgrading your Healing Gourd in Black Myth Wukong
To upgrade your Healing Gourd in Black Myth Wukong you will need to unlock the Shen Monkey as one of the many intractable NPCs. You will find it after you have progressed a fair bit in the narrative and have defeated the Yaoguai Chief: Guangmou boss who can be found near Snake Trail Keeper’s Shrine.
From there you will need to go to the Marsh of White Mist Keeper’s Shrine and then move past it to find a wooden bridge. Here you will spot a monkey trying to escape an enemy.
Save the monkey by killing the enemy and you will have unlocked the Shen Monkey as an NPC.
Interact with them and you will be able to upgrade your Healing Gourd in Black Myth Wukong. However, to increase the healing ability of the gourd, you will need Loujia Fragrant Vine.
The base gourd will be able to heal 33% of your max HP with each use and you can only use it four times before it needs a refill. You can use the Loujia Fragrant Vines to upgrade the number of heals and the total HP recovery the item allows by changing the Old Gourd to a Medicine Gourd.
Loujia Fragrant Vines can be found all over the map, so make sure to keep collecting them as you go along to increase the effectiveness of the gourd.
Can you upgrade other drinks in Black Myth Wukong?
Apart from increasing the potency of the Healing Gourd, the Shen Monkey will also help you to upgrade other consumables. Under the Upgrade Drinks option, you will be able to upgrade items like the Coconut Wine to the 3-Year-Old Coconut Wine, to increase its healing properties.
Each upgrade will need a specific item that you will need to collect. So make sure you are exploring as much as you can of new loations, especially behind waterfalls.
