Marathon Closed Alpha: Release Date & How to Join

Despite being months away from release, Bungie‘s extraction shooter Marathon is coming into its closed alpha stages. And if you’re lucky, you’ll be one of the select few to be able to try out this game ahead of launch.

Following layoffs at Bungie, Marathon was subsequently delayed to 2025, but thankfully, Marathon finally has a release date set for later this year too.

Bungie’s also announced the release date for the closed alpha test, but there are some caveats that you need to keep in mind.

How to join Marathon closed alpha test

To join Marathon closed alpha test, here’s what you need to do:

  • Make your way to the official Marathon discord server.
  • Head to any of the channels and hit /alpha.
  • When you do that, you’ll receive a DM containing instructions on how to sign up for the game online.
  • If you’ve successfully followed the instructions, you’ll be added to the pool of candidates, from which only a handful will be selected.
  • If you’re amongst the selected individuals, you’ll be notified about the same via an email from the following address: marathonthegame@info.bungie.net.

It’s also worth noting that if you receive a priority code, it means that your chances of being selected for the test are higher. You’ll also receive three codes in total, which will allow you to bring two friends along for the ride during this test.

Marathon release date

As revealed by Bungie, Marathon is set to release on September 23, 2025. It’s rather surprising that Bungie chose this date because Borderlands 4 releases on this very day.

It’s evident that even Marathon is trying to avoid the deadly GTA 6 launch window, but releasing alongside Borderlands 4 may not be the best of ideas at this point in time.

If you’re looking forward to the closed alpha test for now, that goes live on April 23, and will continue until May 4. Once this period is over, you’ll either have to wait till the game goes live, or till Bungie announces some sort of open beta ahead of launch.
