It’s hard to believe that Minecraft is over 16 years old at this point. The blocky sandbox video game builder simulator has come a long way since its initial release back on May 17, 2009 – developed by Notch before its acquisition by Microsoft.
The game routinely receives multiple updates, and a series of cryptic teasers from the official Minecraft social media accounts seem to point at something major releasing quite soon. More on these posts and what they could possibly entail below.
Minecraft to release a major announcement later today

The official Minecraft accounts on multiple social media accounts – such as Whatsapp, Discord and Twitter/X have recently shared a cryptic message which consists of an emoji depicting falling leaves.
This was preceded by an image of a rock on Twitter/X by the official Minecraft account, which does fit into the whole ‘mining’ theme of the game rather appropriately. Curiously enough, this would also align with Mojang’s prior track record of releasing content drops only on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
While the exact nature of this announcement remains to be seen at the time of writing this article, it should at the very least be related to upcoming content scheduled for 2025.
What to possible expect from the Minecraft announcement
While the announcement is yet to be revealed, we can make a few educated guesses on the upcoming content.
For starters, this should be related to a major 2025 update for Minecraft, and could well extend into a lot of things. Expect anything from new blocks, NPCs or even a new biome to be teased soon.
All we can do is simply wait until Mojang releases an official statement regarding the teaser, and provides us with additional details.
Taking prior announcements into consideration, we should expect a reveal sometime around 11 AM Eastern Time today, January 8, 2024.
