“Miss me with that” Rumors of a Sony Game Launcher Gets Slammed by PC Gamers

Rumors of Sony bringing their own brand of game launcher have been making the rounds on the internet this week, but PC gamers are not excited at all, and there is a reason for that. If this turns out to be true, then this might be another incoming fail for the company.

That is because the PC environment is really hard to penetrate when trying to establish new launchers. Ubisoft and EA previously failed at the same thing. But knowing that PlayStation games still get to stay on PC should be better than completely losing them, which was the rumor from last week.

Although there has not been any proper way to pinpoint where the rumor comes from, there haven’t been any official claims shutting them down either. The latest news as it stands from Jason Schreier, states that Sony will have to come out and confirm at some point.

PlayStation has not officially made any statements

Earlier this year, the rumor had been about Sony deciding to move away from the PC platform due to sales and performance on the platform not living up to the standards they wanted. Not like this was officially confirmed by the company, but the source did come from Jason Schreier.

This time, however, he took to ResetEra to drop his two cents on the matter. “At some point Sony will confirm it, whether it’s on a call with investors or maybe even when Housemarque starts doing press for Saros and someone asks if they have plans to bring it to PC and they say no.” He posted.

While everything is still uncertain, it is also true that Sony is not completely moving away from the platform, because PC players are still going to get the live service games that are exclusive to the console, such as the upcoming Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.

So it isn’t like the company has bad blood with the platform. There were speculations around the fact that Sony might now consider PC a direct competitor since Steam has been on a roll with PC hardware, and Microsoft is also trying to get a piece of the pie with their next project, the Xbox Helix.

PC users are not too keen on a new launcher

On the consumer side of things, the mood has not changed all that much. The console war atmosphere may not be as prevalent as it used to be, but embers of its competitive nature still flicker.

Users on Social media like Twitter/X clearly express their detachment from the modern games that are popular on the console, but they also want some of the legacy titles.

Some took to remind the rest in the discussion how launchers have never worked for PC. Even Epic Game Store, with its exclusives and free game giveaways, fails to measure up to the popularity of Steam and GOG.

The rumors keep coming almost every month, and it’s a telling sign that some sort of shift is definitely coming to how Sony deals with PC gaming. Most of the console’s fans want the company to go back to when PlayStation games were exclusive, and there is already another competitor in red who has been successful at maintaining that for ages now.
