Decorations and Melding will be a core part of your High Rank end-game loop in Monster Hunter Wilds. No matter what build you are going for, you will not be able to make the most of your weapons and armor sets if you do not have the proper decos to compliment them.
There are a few caveats to the Deco system in Monster Hunter Wilds which can take some getting used to. So if you are approaching the later stages of High Rank and looking to make the best builds in the RPG, then the guide below will help you out.
What are Decoration in Monster Hunter Wilds and how do they work?

Decorations are additional skills that you will be able to equip onto the weapons and armor that you have equipped on your character. A Decoration that is of a higher rarity will usually have higher rarity skills and you first start obtaining some low-level Decos as early as Low Rank when you discover the Oilwell Basin for the first time.
Decoration lets you make personalized builds allowing you to make a set-up for every monster and encounter. However, do keep in mind that a higher rarity deco will require a socket of a higher level.
Some higher Decos can come with multiple skills on them. So there is a high level of complexity when it comes to this system and the amount of customizations that you will be able to make with your builds.
There are two main types of Decorations that you will be able to get in Monster Hunter Wilds:
- Sword
- Armor
Sword Decorations are the ones that can only be placed on your weapons. While the Armor Decos go into the Deco slots of your armor.
Most of the Decos, especially the higher rarity ones will be based on RnG. You will have no control over the type of decorations you get from hunts and quests, till you unlock Melding which will let you craft certain Dexos after you reach a certain point in your HR level.
How does Melding work in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Melding is unlocked pretty early on in the narrative of Monster Hunter Wilds. You gain access to it in Low Rank itself as soon as you take down Jin Dahad.
When you talk to Vio in Suja, you will only get a few options initially which will include Mystery Orb Melding through Wyverian Melding where you can exchange Decos that you don’t need for other rarity 4 decos. These will be divided into Sword and Armor decorations as well.
As you get further into High Rank you will soon unlock the option to make specific decorations. However, early on it will only be level 1 Decos and then level 2 Decos once you have made enough progress.
After beating Jin Dahaad a second time in High Rank you will unlock the Glowing Orb Melding which will have a higher chance of providing you with Rarity 5 Decos. And once you have completed the story and reached HR 100 you will unlock Ancient Orb melding which will provide you with a higher chance of getting Rarity 6 Decos.
For Wyverian Melding, you will need to exchange other Decorations or Melding Tickets to fill up the individual bars and get an assortment of random Decorations by the end of the process. Using Melding Tickets drastically increases the number of Decorations you can get out of this system.
Note: Apart from Melding Tickets, the Melding Pot also offers a Meld Relic feature which can be important in getting your hands on the Artian Weapons that you want. You can exchange Artian components that you don’t need for the ones that you do. However, there is a fair bit of RnG in this process as well.
Best ways to farm Decorations in Monster Hunter Wilds
Here are some of the best ways of getting more Decorations fast in Monster Hunter Wilds
1) Make the most of the Investigations system

When you open the map and scroll around the different regions in World Map you get to see all the monsters that are currently available for an expedition. Here you will often spot monsters who are offering a bonus reward of Decorations.
In the image above you can see that a Jin Dahaad is currently present in the Iceshard Cliffs and is offering 3 Ancient Orb-Sword and 1 Ancient Orb-Armor which is quite good if you are somewhere around HR 35.
Now you have two options when it comes to taking this quest on, you can either “Begin Field Survey” when the hunt begins right away, or you can “Save as Investigation”. When you pick the latter, you get to automatically save this very hunt in your investigations catalog. Once you do that you can talk to Alma and access it. When the quest becomes an Investigation you will get to complete it a total of three times.
So you get a chance to gain a minimum of 9 Ancient Orb-Sword and 3 Ancient Orb-Armor by repeating the quest. Ancient Orbs have the highest chance of dropping 6 Rarity decorations so you will want to have as many quests like these as you can in your Investigations.
Moreover, as you reach further into High Rank you unlock harder, Tempered hunts that offer even more Decos as rewards. These hunts are also a great source of higher rarity Artian components.
The game will often notify you if a high-value target has appeared in the region that you are in and if they are offering a lot of bonus rewards. So keep a look out for them and if you consider them to be very valuable quests, feel free to add them to your investigations.
2) Meld the Decorations you do not need
As you complete quests you will eventually end up getting a lot of Decorations that you do not need. Decorations like Leap and Climber are not something that is useful in a hunt and you will probably do better without them.
So a good way of getting rid of these decos is to meld them away and use them for making Glowing Orbs and then Ancient Orbs once you unlock the feature. The Ancient Orb Melding unlocks once you reach HR 100 it requires the most number of points and Deco investments to use, so this is where all of your Silver and Gold Melding Tickets come in handy.
This feature becomes more and more important once you start getting a load of decos that you do not need from your hunts.

3) Meld specific Decorations
As mentioned, you will eventually unlock the option to meld specific Decorations in Monster Hunter Wilds. First, it will be level 1 Decos and then it will be level 3 Decos. Capcom has not added the feature to meld specific level 3 Decos yet, however, it might be something that they look to include once Master Rank comes along in a couple of years.
Importance of Level 3 Decos in Monster Hunter Wilds: The Endgame Loop

As your Hunter Rank goes up you will start seeing harder and harder quests unlocking in Monster Hunter Wilds. For the best chance of getting the rarest decos in the game, you will need to go for hunts that feature multiple-tempered monsters of higher rank.
In the image above you can see an investigation of a Tempered Rey Dau and a Tempered Doshaguma. The quest provides a very high yield of both types of Ancient Orbs making this one of the best quests to go for when looking to farm for the rarest Decos in the game.

A big portion of your endgame loop will revolve around farming quests for the best level 3 Decorations. So keep a look out for missions like these and continue to add them to your investigations every time one pops up.
Moreover, in multi-hunt quests the monster health is also lower, so you will have a much easier time taking out the Rey Dau in this scenario. Capturing the monster will also significantly lower the hunt time unless you are booting up a “Slay Only” quest.
