Video game franchises can have some of the most annoying and toxic fanbases. Which is unfortunate because there are some great games out there spanning incredible genres such as RPGs and fighting games.
Neither are these parts of the fans representative of the whole community. In the list below, we talk about some of the video game franchises with the most toxic and annoying fanbases.
Video Games with the most toxic fanbase
League of Legends

Anyone who plays video games will recognize League of Legends. It is one of the most popular competitive video games around. Aside from DOTA, League of Legends is the only other MOBA that has stayed dominant in its own genre.
But the game also brings with it its fair share of annoying fanbase issues. MOBAs are a genre that depends on teamwork. If a single person in the team fails to live up to their role, then situations can heat up.
This is why League of Legends has one of the most toxic fan bases of all time. Anyone trying to get into the game will get bombarded with slurs and insults. This is also what makes it one of the hardest esports games to keep up with.
Persona

Persona is presently one of the biggest Japanese RPGs in existence. The fifth game is one of the most highly praised video games ever released in recent years. But the problem with popularity is that it brings with it a crowd of annoying and toxic fanbase.
The series originates from the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, which is considered one of the most influential monster-collecting games. Persona takes the concepts introduced in the series and spins them off with philosophy and high school simulation.
Unfortunately, the Persona fanbase has brought in all the wrong sorts of people. They are less interested in discussing the philosophies and game design. But more interested in objectifying and talking about which underage high schooler is the best girl.
Minecraft

Minecraft is the biggest video game in existence. It’s not a claim; there is official data that straight up suggests that it is the highest-selling video game of all time. It has won several awards and is also favored by parents and teachers as an educational game.
But the series has brought in its fair share of annoying audiences over the years, thanks to the internet. In the last decade, kids’ content on internet websites like YouTube has dumbed down decency. This included a lot of Minecraft content all over YouTube.
We saw the toxic nature of the fanbase erupt firsthand with the release of the Minecraft movie in theaters. Hordes of fans would go to watch the movie and cause chaos by spilling food and being annoying at the theaters.
This, unfortunately, gave a lot of bad reputation to the actual fanbase of the game. Those who want to stay away from trouble just to play and enjoy Minecraft.
Five Nights at Freddy’s

Horror games have some of the most fascinating titles in existence. From survival horror games like Resident Evil to the psychological horror of the Silent Hill series. We have seen the genre grow and evolve into a massive indie video game scene.
In recent years, indie game developer Scott Cawthon broke new ground by introducing one of the biggest horror games ever released. Five Nights at Freddy’s introduced a completely new breed of horror game mechanics that had never been seen before.
But the franchise got too big for its own good and brought in some annoying and toxic people to the fanbase. FNaF was designed as a horror game for the internet generation, and unfortunately, that brought with it some of the weirdest people.
Thanks to the fans, the Internet is filled with FNaF memes and references at all corners. The fanbase is also notorious for endlessly objectifying and shipping the main characters in the series.
Nintendo

This is a special category as it does not isolate fans of a particular video game but rather the whole console. Nintendo fans are the most annoying and toxic fanbase in existence.
This is especially sad because Nintendo is known for some of the best exclusive IPs in video games. But when it’s time to criticize the company for the various problems it has, fans will pick up pitchforks.
Nintendo has a lot of problems, such as taking strict action against emulation. Constantly shutting down fan projects. Most importantly, making games for dated hardware. But fans will blindly support and follow them. They will get into arguments with you online if you raise a finger at their valuable corporate company.
Call of Duty

Although this part applies to not just Call of Duty fans, but also fans of 2K games and other franchises such as Madden. Basically, the casual side of video game fanbases who refuse to venture outside their own sphere of games.
This is not some completely annoying behaviour; it is pretty normal to lean towards particular media and stick with it. But the problem arises when these fanbases get toxic about other games.
Call of Duty and 2K fans will only consume games that have super realistic graphics. They will look down on anything that goes for a different art style. When these fans see a popular game not having realistic modern graphics, they will call it a video game from PS2 era.
Grand Theft Auto

These days, the Grand Theft Auto franchise has gone far beyond the medium of video games in popularity. It is one of the most talked-about franchises among celebrities and other important people.
There are a lot of open-world video games out there, but no one can really replicate the magic of Rockstar games. Unfortunately, as always, being one of the biggest media franchises in existence brings along some toxic and annoying fans.
GTA fanbase will not stop having unrealistic demands on every Rockstar Games post on the internet. They will keep doing this for a whole year until what they want gets a release. This gets so out of hand at times that news outlets end up reporting about annoying fan demands.
