It’s been a whole 3 years since the Nier: Replicant remake landed for PC and consoles, and nearly 7 years since the critically acclaimed Nier: Automata. JRPG Fans have been eager for more Nier news since then, and it would seem that the wait is finally over.
According to a report from Gematsu, series producer Yosuke Saito is reportedly working with director Yoko Taro and composer Keiichi Okabe to create a ‘new project’. The trio have expressed their desire to work together before, and this might set the groundwork for a new Nier game.
Not a whole lot of information has been revealed regarding the upcoming project though, with Saito remarking “It might be NieR, it might not be NieR”, in a rather humorous tone. Further information is expected to be released once details are finalized, as the rumored game is very unlikely to have entered development at the time of writing this article.
Saito has also remarked on yet another project being in the works, teasing the arrival of “something interesting” and “creating something that does not yet exist” – which should be completely unrelated to the new Nier game.
While the stage is set for what could be a potential new Nier game, do keep in mind that it is in its early planning stages, and it could be years before we get an official title and announcement trailer, let alone gameplay snippets.
For the uninitiated, Yosuke Saito is a Japanese video game producer, and an executive officer for Square Enix, directing the Creative Business Unit II: Division 4. Outside of the Nier series, Saito has worked on multiple titles such the Voice of Cards series and Drakengard 2.
On the other hand, Yoko Taro and Keiichi Okabe are known for their roles in directing and composing OSTs for the Drakengard series, and its many spin offs – which include the Nier series of video games as well.
