Sega to delist over 50 Classics from online storefronts

In a surprise move, Sega has announced the delisting of its Genesis and Mega Drive Classics from multiple storefronts, some time later next month. The move will see the removal of over 50 retro titles from storefronts permanently, with no possible routes for re-purchase.

You can still play these games if you already own them

SEGA has clarified that players who already own a copy of these Classics will be able to keep downloading and playing them as long as these storefronts remain active.

Past December 6, 2024 (11:59 PST) there will be no way to purchase these titles legally and add them to your library – which might make it worth collecting the games before their eventual removal.

Either way, the removal of these games is nothing short of devastating – and a great reminder on why an all-digital future is anything but ideal.
