How to stagger and assault Officers in Dynasty Warriors Origins

Large scale battles in Dynasty Warriors Origins are rather commonplace, but you will often encounter mini-bosses or Officers every now and then. Officers have a much larger HP pool and can guard and apply fortification at will, which makes them quite annoying to deal with.

Thankfully, by applying stagger and assault on these Officers you can break their guard and dish out a massive amount of damage. More on dealing with these enemies in the game below.

Once you completely deplete an Officer’s fortification bar, you can assault them – a result of them being toppled over and unable to defend themselves against your attacks. To assault an enemy, you will have to simply approach them, and hit the Strong Attack button (Triangle/Y/right-click for PS5/Xbox Series/PC respectively).

Assaults can be used as finishers to kill off an enemy if their health is sufficiently low, and can also be used to whittle down any nearby Officer’s fortification gauge when within range.

Breaking an Officer’s guard in Dynasty Warriors Origins

In short, the only way to assault an Officer is by depleting the entirety of the fortification gauge atop their HP bar. Furthermore, keep in mind that normal attacks will be unable to deplete shields in most cases (especially while guarding).

You will have to rely on parries, Combat Arts and Musou Attacks to break their guard.

The best way to break through defenses is arguably with the use of parries and perfect dodges. To parry, simply use the block button just before an enemy lands an attack at you.

Similarly, a perfect dodge requires you to dodge an enemy’s attack at the very last moment – restoring Bravery in the process.

Certain Combat Arts can also go through Dangerous Attacks, which in turn deplete a large chunk of the fortification bar.
