The First Berserker Khazan Easy Mode explained

Unlike most other Soulslike games, The First Berserker Khazan has decided to implement an easy mode, which will make progressing in the game considerably easier. However, the mode is not something that you will get to pick at the start of the game.

It can be activated after you meet a certain condition, making it one of the more unique ways of changing the game’s difficulty.

So if you are looking to have an easier time completing the various content in the action-adventure title, then the guide below will help you out.

How to unlock Easy Mode in The First Berserker Khazan

Defeating Yetuga will automatically unlock the Easy Mode option in The First Berserker Khazan

The only way to unlock Easy Mode is to die three times in The First Berserker Khazan. You will get this option only after your third death and not at the start of the game. So you can just run up to the first enemy you meet and die three times to them in a row, and once you have revived, the game will then share the difficulty option screen with you.

Once you have unlocked this difficulty screen, you will then have access to it at any given time in the settings menu. So you can choose to continue your journey at the difficulty that you are at, and then change it to Easy when things start to get incredibly difficult in the later stages.

Note: If you are able to beat the first boss of the game (Yetuga) without dying three times during or before the encounter, then the difficulty setting will automatically unlock after the battle.

What happens in The First Berserker Khazan’s Easy Mode?

When you activate Easy Mode in The First Berserker Khazan, you will see no difference in enemy behaviour. They will have the same AI, attack patterns, and will also deal the same amount of damage.

Instead of nerfing the enemies, the Easy Mode in the game will buff Khazan instead. Once you are in Easy Mode, Kahaz gets the following buffs:

  • Deals more damage on every attack
  • Has more damage resistance
  • Faster Stamina recovery
  • Improved weight limit
  • More resistance attributes to every element in the game.

It’s important to note here that most of the buffs Khazan gets are not shown on the stat screen. There is an invisible modifier that comes into play, which buffs every single stat on Khazan. The only buffs you will notice are the 150 resistance gain to each element, along with a 6-point increase to weight.

These are considerable buffs that you will be able to make the most of in the early stages of the game. So if you are having trouble with progression, make sure to dial the difficulty down. This is especially helpful for those who are new to the Soulslike genre.

Why should you not tone down the difficulty in The First Berserker Khazan?

Khazan gets more skills making progression easier

If you are familiar with action-adventure titles and Soulslike games in general, we recommend that you do not put the game on Easy Mode. This is because of two things:

  • Easy mode locks you out of the Expert’s Journey trophy
  • Easy Mode is permanent and cannot be turned back

If you are going for a completionist run, then you cannot afford to play this game on easy mode. Moreover, if you start finding the combat to be very easy and wish to go back to normal difficulty after getting bored, then you will not be able to do that.

Easy Mode is permanent! The only way to play the game on normal difficulty, then will be to start your journey from scratch.

The game gets progressively easier as you take on more enemies and bosses. Along with learning the various core mechanics, you also get your hands on Skill Points, which let you unlock new skills for Khazan, making him more and more powerful as you progress.

Moreover, bosses will be made considerably more manageable with the help of the Spirit of Advocacy summon system.

Hence, it’s recommended that you stick to the general difficulty of the game and experiment with the different combat mechanics till you get more familiar with its systems.
