Dragonball Sparking Zero brings many new additions and improvements over the classic Budokai Tenkaichi formula, such as ‘what if’ scenarios, which are taken to a whole new level in the game.
One of the more minor deviations players can observe in Sparking Zero’s campaign is during the battle against the dynamic duo of the Ginyu Force, Jeice and Burter in the Namek/Freiza arc.
Ordinarily, the game closely follows the events of the anime, but fulfilling a certain condition can result in a rather unexpected outcome. More on the same below.
Jeice and Burter’s routes in Dragonball Sparking Zero

This particular route entirely depends on whether you manage to deflect Jeice’s Crusher Ball move in time. Deflecting the Crusher Ball will unlock the alternate route, while failing to do the same will unlock the canonical route instead.
Canon route
Avoid deflecting the Crusher Ball to end up in the canon path. Simply dodge or block the attack to proceed battling Jeice.
Alternative route
The alternate route will take place once you deflect the Crusher Ball from Jeice. Doing so will prompt Jeice to take his leave and drop in Burter instead – against whom you will battle.
It should be kept in mind that players will need to deflect the attack using Goku – and not necessarily block and/or dodge it. Only a successful deflection will unlock the alternative route.
To deflect the Crusher Ball, make sure you have atleast 2 stacks of the Skill bar ready. Once Jeice fires the attack, hit B or O (Xbox and PlayStation respectively – using the ‘Classic’ control scheme) in time to deflect the attack toward him.
Most players should already be familiar with Sparking Zero’s combat loop by this point of the game, and as such deflecting the attack should be quite easy – which in turn means that players will usually experience the alternate route instead.
