The best Lux build options have helped her have a much easier time in the current League of Legends 14.11 meta. She has been rising in popularity as both a Mid Laner and a Support. Her item options make her one of the best poke mages in the game.
While Lux has a relatively simple kit, she is pretty hard to execute. This is because each of her abilities are skill-shots. She has no point-and-click CC up her sleeves and she can be quite difficult to pilot if you are new to the role.
However, once you get her timings right, Lux can snowball the entire game. She can melt the enemy backline from a screen away making it easier for her team to clutch out fights and secure neutral objectives.

Lux Pros and Cons in League of Legends Season 14
Pros:
- Lux is currently one of the best poke mages in Riot’s MOBA. She is very annoying to play into once you start landing her skills shots, as she can poke the enemy down to half HP even before a fight begins. She is pretty easy to secure early leads with and can snowball the entire game once she has her core items done.
- Lux’s best build options let her have a good deal of wave clear. This makes her relatively easier to farm with throughout the game, and you won’t be struggling to get CS even when pushed under the tower. She has great lane harass and skirmish potential, allowing her to fit most team compositions.
- Lux has a relatively lower cooldown on her abilities. This lets her keep rotating through her spells during teamfights, and burst down the enemy with her combos. She can 100-to-0 any carry with her Q+E+R combo. So as long as you are laning her Binding, she will let you have a much easier time in the game.
Cons:
- Lux is very bad against highly-mobile, assassin picks. As she is very skillshot-reliant, she has a hard time landing her skills on champions that have a lot of dash and blink abilities. These champions will force you to play defensively, denying her early advantages, and making you fall behind early.
- While easy to pick up, Lux is pretty hard to execute. Each of her abilities are skill shots and you will need a fair amount of practice on her to consistently land her poke. If you are missing your abilities, Lux is not going to have any impact on teamfights. For a poke-mage, she has a high-risk, high-reward playstyle.
- Lux is squishy and lacks any form of mobility tools. This makes her easy to engage on and taken down as soon as a fight starts. This also makes her lane easy to gank as well. As she keeps pushing in the lane, Lux is prone to giving away early kills. She is weak against hard CC and engage comps, and will have a rough time in the game if the enemy has a lot of backline threats.
How to play Lux: Tips and Tricks for League of Legends Season 14

Early Game:
- Mid Lane: Lux has a pretty strong Early Game so your main goal will be to keep poking the enemy with Lucent Singularity when they walk up to CS. She will often push in the lane, allowing you a chance to secure plates or even get a kill on the enemy if you and your entire combo. However, do not forget to Ward around your lane as Lux is easy to gank. Always keep a mental note of the enemy Jungler pathing, and place wards in a way that spots them out.
- Support: As a Support, Lux’s role in the Early Game will be to harass the enemy Bot Lane with her Lucent Singularity. Make it difficult for the enemy ADC to CS and push them into their tower helping your duo laner secure early advantages. Keep Warding around the lane and placing deep Wards in the enemy Jungle. Go in aggressively with your Binding once you see that your own Jungler is coming for a gank.
Mid Game:
- Mid Lane: Lux starts hitting her power spikes in the Mid Game once her best build slowly starts to come online. She can start melting the enemy backline from a screen away. So don’t shy away from taking a fight. If you see that your team is positioning for a skirmish or looking to secure a neutral objective, group with them and start to poke out the enemy team. Her Q+E combo will make it very difficult for the enemy to contest neutral objectives.
- Support: Keep putting down deep wards in the enemy territory. Vision is everything in the Mid Game and your role will be to constantly keep track of enemy positioning. Clear enemy Wards with your sweepers, and help your Jungler make plays in other parts of the map. Lux is great at setting up plays with her Binding. So feel free to roam if your ADC is not constantly getting engaged on. Help your Jungler secure objectives like the Gromps, Herald, and Drake if you are not getting leads from ganks.
Late Game:
- Mid Lane: Once Lux’s best build is done, she can completely destroy the enemy backline in a single rotation of spells. However, she does not play well in tanks. Reserved your spells for poking out the enemy carries and not their frontline. Lux is a burst mage who does not dish out consistent DPS. Her playstyle is very combo-heavy, and in the Late Game, you will have to choose your moments carefully. Prematurely using all of her buttons in one go will not let you have any impact in a fight.
- Support: Lux’s job as a Support in the Late Game is rather simple. Just keep your allies shielded with her Prismatic Barrier and try catching out the enemy backline with your Q. While you might not be able to burst the carries down as a Support, you will be annoying with your poke. Help set up plays for the rest of your team as you continue to improve your vision score.
