The Mid Lane meta has seen a significant shift in League of Legends 14.11 with certain champions providing the best opportunity for climbing up the rank ladder. These picks are quite difficult to play against in solo queue and have performed consistently across all competitive tiers.
Some of the best Mid Lane champions are easy to pick up and come with a lot of agency in the Early Game. We also have a few picks in the list that are weak early on but have an incredibly rewarding Late Game curve.
Below are some of the champions who are dominating the Mid Lane meta in the Competitive solo queue.
10 best Mid Lane champions in League of Legends 14.11
10) Taliyah

Taliyah has always been a staple pick in League of Legends’ pro play. However, she is enjoying a fair bit of pick-and-ban in solo queue lately. She is a control mage who scales incredibly well into the Late Game. Her kit also comes with a lot of CC tools allowing her a lot of angles to set up plays during a skirmish and making it hard for the enemy to play the game with her Weaver’s Wall.
Taliyah’s best build paths and item versatility lets her be flexed in both the Mid Lane and the jungle. While she has a bit more agency in the former in the current meta, Jungle-Taliyah is still a viable pick based on team composition.
Because of her CC tools, Taliyah is strong throughout the game. She has a lot of Early Game pressure in lane and can often push in the wave. This lets her rotate early and make plays in other parts of the map.
But as most of her abilities are skill-shot bases, it makes her pretty hard to master. Setting plays can take some practice. You might be struggling to stay relevant in a game if you have just picked her up.
9) Ahri

Ahri wasn’t exactly doing well in the meta at the start of League of Legends season 14. It was only after she received a fair number of buffs that she became one of the best Mid Lane champions in the game.
Ahri is incredibly mobile with a lot of pick potential with her CC. Although she is a control mage, Ahri can be played like an assassin. She can aggressively dash into a fight to chunk out the enemy’s back line.
Her Spirit Rush makes her difficult to lock down in the lane making her one of the hardest champions to gank after level 6. However, when it comes to teamfight execution, Ahri is very hard to master.
Her primary abilities are skill shots, and her squishy nature makes her easy to take down if she gets hit by an enemy CC. So you will need to be constantly aware of when to go in and the priority targets that you will need to pick out with her Charm and Orb of Deception.
Ahri has a fair bit of item versatility as well, and there are multiple build paths that you can try with her.
8) Kassadin

Kassadin has been getting more popular in recent patches. His best build options let him have incredible scaling the later a game goes. While he has a weak Early Game, Kassadin starts hitting like a truck once he gets a few items under his belt.
The current meta in Riot’ MOBA, favors champions who have a fair bit of mobility and good scaling. Kassadin fits the bill perfectly, and he can take over teamfights when played right.
However, the Void Walker is not that easy to pick up. He is incredibly mana-hungry. So if you are not timing his Riftwalks correctly, you will often find yourself out of mana.
Kassadin’s kit takes a fair bit of practice to master. But once you do get the hang of it, it can be a very rewarding experience. Once he hits level 16, he can melt through the enemy backline in a single rotation.
His build is also comparatively tankier than most other Mid Laners. This lets him sustain more and survive longer in a fight.
7) Cassiopeia

Cassiopeia is one of the best scaling Mid Lane champions in League of Legends. While she is been on and off the meta, the Serpent’s Embrace remains lethal in the right hands. She scales incredibly well into the Late Game, ramping up more damage the later a game goes.
Cassiopeia’s best build options let her make the most of her kit the longer a game progresses. She has decent Early Game but is extremely mana-hungry. This makes her gold-reliant, and she will start being more effective in skirmishes once she has a few core items under her belt.
Her W is one of the best tools to lock down targets who have a lot of mobility in the forms of dashes and blinks. This lets her have a fair bit of control in teamfights, and makes it easier to land her Petrifying Gaze.
She is a teamfighting powerhouse in the Late Game who can instantly melt the enemy team in a single rotation of spells. However, her lack of mobility tools makes her easy to engage on.
She is also relatively squishy with low resistances, which makes it quite easy to lock her down with point-and-click CC and burst her down. Kiting around a teamfight is key when it comes to mastering Cassiopeia.
6) Anivia

Anivia is one of the best control mages in the current League of Legends meta. She comes with a ton of CC with the ability to zone out the enemy carries from a fight. This makes it easier for her team to get a successful engage off.
However, Anivia is pretty hard to master as most of her abilities are skill shots. She is also very weak and mana-hungry in the Early Game. Anivia starts having an impact once her best build is online, and she gets some core items under her belt.
Anivia needs to stack her Tear as soon as possible. While her passive lets her come back from the dead, the Cryophoenix is still very squishy and can be easily taken out if the enemy can layer their CC on her.
Positioning is key when it comes to mastering Anivia’s kit. She requires a fair amount of practice to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, she can carry you through multiple ranks.
Anivia gets very hard to counter once she gets going. She has an incredible amount of burst that can chunk out the enemy frontline even before a fight starts. She has a great objective set-up and can melt through the Baron or Elder Drake in the Late Game.
5) Galio

Galio is finally getting his time in the spotlight and the Colosus has been gaining popularity as one of the best picks to counter AP-heavy comps. While you can play him as a support, especially pairing him with a Fasting Senna, he will be much more reliable in the Mid Lane.
Galio has a lot of burst in the Early Game. But his damage does fall off the later the game goes as you will mostly build tank and sustain items on him. With higher resistances he gets very difficult to take down and his CC tools makes it very easy for him to control the flow of a battle.
Galios acts as an effective frontline in all stages of the game. If you are seeing that your team already has a lot of carries during pick-and-ban, then opting into a Galio can help you make the game easier.
He has an amazing kill setup in lane, making it significantly easier for your Jungler to get successful ganks off.
4) Diana

Diana has been one of the better AP assassins in the Mid Lane this meta. Although she is more popularly played in the jungle, Diana’s current build options help make her one of the best mindlaners to climb rank with.
The Scorn of the Moon has good scaling and can start one-shotting carries once she gets a few core items under her belt. She has a lot of mobility and can close the gap on the enemy multiple times to secure kills.
However, Diana lacks proper disengage tools which leave her vulnerable to ganks. It’s easy to collapse on her if her flash is down and as she is innately very squishy she can be bursted down in an instant.
It’s Diana’s playmaking tools that make her amazing at skirmishes. If she is able to catch multiple enemies in her Moonfall, your team will have a much easier time engaging onto them.
3) Tristana

The 14.11 ADC item changes has helped Tristana quite a bit in the Mid Lane. She was always pretty high up on priority in previous metas, but the item updates skyrocketted popularity quite a bit.
The Yordle’s best build options makes the most of her early aggression. Tristana usually dominates her lane and will often push in the wave to look for plays in other parts of the map.
She is pretty difficult to play into in the Early Game, and she can start to snowball out of a few early leads. Her Rocket Jump resets makes her fairly mobile in a fight and it’s pretty difficult to pin her down in extended skimishes.
Tristana is also pretty easy to master, however, you will need to practice when to go in with her W and then to use it only as an escape tool. It’s easy to over extend with her and loose all the advantages that you have gained.
2) Vex

Vex is one of the best burst mages in League of Legends’ current meta. She has amazing snowball potential and can start taking over games as soon as she gets some early leads.
However, Vex is pretty item reliant and it’s only when she gets to complete most of her best build options does she come online.
She is also a very skill-shot heavy champion. This gives her a higher barrier of entry and you will need a fair bit of time to master her kit.
But Vex’s pros easily outweigh her cons. She has one of the best wave clears in the game, making it harder to siege into her. She scales incredibly well, has good CC tools, and can one-shot any enemy carry if she gets her combo off.
So if you are willing to invest some time in picking her up, then Vex is going to be one of the best Mid Laners to carry you in rank.
1) Brand

Brand was very popular as a Jungler and a Support at the start of League of Legends season 14. It is only in the recent patches that he started seeing some priority in the Mid Lane.
Brand is easy to pick up and not too difficult to master. While he has a few skill shot abilities up his sleeve, his overall kit is simple to execute and won’t take too much practice.
His prowess, however, lies in how he can shred through tanks. His passive ignores magic resistance, and he deals max HP damage with Blaze. Blaze can also transfer to nearby enemy champions. With the right timing, Brand will be able to create AOE explosions chunking out the enemy team.
But unlike some of the other meta Mid Lane champions Brand is comparatively squishy and lacks any form of mobility tools. Even with Brand’s best build, he is very easy to focus on in a teamfight. You will have to constantly be aware of your position when kiting around a skirmish.
