League of Legends best Milio build guide: Itemization, Counters, Strategy, and more

Milio is enjoying a fair bit of popularity in League of Legends 14.11 because of his best build paths and core itemization. The Gentle Flame was not doing too well at the start of the season. Fortunately, recent item balance updates were able to help him have a considerably higher pick and ban rate.

He is seeing a lot of screentime in pro play with many in solo queue finding it easier to climb rank with him. Milio is one of the better enchanter supports at the moment who pairs incredibly well with hyper-carries.

He has amazing sustain and disengage tools that allow him to help his teammates survive longer in a skirmish. While easy to pick up, Milio has a higher skill ceiling and there is a lot you will be able to do with him once you master him.

Milio Pros and Cons in League of Legends Season 14

Pros:

  • Milio is the perfect counter-pick against teams that have high CC and engage. He has some of the best disengage tools in Riot’s MOBA which can be rather annoying to play against. His Breath of Life acts as a global Cleanse that will negate all immobilizing and disabling effects.
  • Milio’s Q is a great poking tool in the laning phase. Not only can he harass the enemy Bot Lane with it, but knock back any enemy that tries to engage onto his team. It’s particularly useful against supports and Junglers who have a lot of dive potential.
  • Milio’s kit and his best build paths let him be versatile enough to fit into most team compositions. This is one of the bigger reasons why he has been so popular in the recent meta. Irrespective of the team you are playing with you will be able to have an impact with him once you get familiar with his kit.

Cons:

  • Milio lacks mobility. He doesn’t have any dashes that can help him out of a tricky situation if his Q is on a cooldown. As he is squishy he is rather easy to focus on and kill. This is why positioning becomes key with Milio as he can be bursted down immediately if he is caught out of position.
  • Milio struggles against poke compositions after the laning phase is over. His lack of mobility and squishy nature make him the ideal target for champions like Varus (Lethality), Ezreal, Jayce, Taliyah, and more. His engage tools are also lacking, so he doesn’t have many answers against compositions that play aggressively into him.
  • Milio has significantly long cooldowns before your core build starts to kick in. This makes him item-reliant and you can struggle to stay relevant if you fall behind in gold and XP. This is what makes him have a higher skill ceiling and difficult to master.

How to play Milio: Tips and Tricks for League of Legends Season 14

Milio Gameplay Guide

Early Game:

  • Milio’s Early game is pretty simple. He usually goes even against most matchups in the Bot Lane. So if you are not miss-playing too many times, you will be able to stay relevant in both Gold and XP. So keep harassing your enemy laners with your Q and help your ADC scale into the Late Game.
  • If you have your lane pushed up, make sure you roam and place deep Wards in the enemy territory. Marking the Enemy Jungler pathing will prevent you from getting caught out if you are pushing up your lane. Milio is not an exceptional roamer, but you can still try to make plays with him in other lanes or create pressure to help your laners out.
  • Don’t be too trigger-happy with Milio’s abilities. His abilities have a very high cooldown period before his build kicks in. It’s very easy to engage on Milio when his abilities are down, so pick your moments when looking to harass the enemy with your Q.

Mid Game:

  • At this stage of the game rotate to the Mid Lane with your ADC and help them have priority there. Make sure you are helping them scale while helping your jungler secure the neutral objectives around the map.
  • Milio is particularly effective against engage compositions. In the Mid Game when he gets some items under his belt, you will be able to use Milio’s abilities to keep your teammates alive. Warm Hugs will AOE heal them then when they are grouped up, while Ultra Mega Fire Kick will disrupt any champion who is looking to collapse onto your team.
  • Don’t prematurely use Breath of Life in a teamfight. It’s the best disengage tool in Milio’s arsenal, so use it when almost all of the enemy CC has landed on your team. It’s capable of negating every immobilizing effect on your team and disrupting what the enemy team is looking to do.

Late Game:

  • Continue to improve your vision score the later the game goes. Vision is everything in League of Legends, hence, keep placing deep wards in the enemy jungle and use your Sweepers to take out enemy vision around the Dragon and Baron pit.
  • Keep buffing and healing your allies in fights and when securing the neutral objective. Milio’s Q is a great tool for securing the Drake or the Baron because if it hits the enemy Jungler it will prevent them from stealing the buff from under your nose. If timed right, it will help prevent a 50-50 Smite scenario.
  • Make sure you position well in teamfights. Try to stand behind your frontline as Milio can be easily killed by the enemy carries. You will need to kite around the fight and keep buffing your allies as you do so.
