It’s a move that got labelled by many observers as a data-grabbing opportunity disguised as safety. Additionally, the entire backlash centers on essential face scans and ID uploads use, sparking immediate privacy concerns and abandonment threats from the core community of Discord.
User fury erupts over Discord security, feeling like surveillance
An announcement made by Discord has lit social media platforms like X on fire. Critics aren’t mincing words, while users call out Discord openly. They are choosing to directly accuse Discord of implementing flawed tech under the guise of protection. Their core complaint is that verification methods are ineffective and can easily be faked. As per them, it serves primarily to harvest sensitive identity and biometric data.
Even financial backlash is mounting on Discord as loyal users are reconsidering their support. This entire backlash has been further compounded due to the recent 2025 breach that involved a third-party vendor. It exposed tens of thousands of governmental IDs, proving that user data is vulnerable.

There are many users who believe that Discord is being forced, and it is not by choice but due to stringent new international regulations.
