Just when everyone thought that Nvidia forcing next gen AI into their tech won’t get worse, they did something that surpasses everything before. The company has officially unveiled the look at DLSS 5, and no one is happy about it.
The idea of integrating AI into modern-day GPU hardware was to improve upscaling and frame generation. People were already sceptical about it, but now they are shocked to find that the company is doing something far worse.
DLSS 5 technology literally looks like putting AI filters on top of graphically intensive games, making them no different from the usual TikTok AI slop that we see around every day. The sad part is that this is the inevitable future.
DLSS 5 is blending pixels with photoreal lighting
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang showed off the new DLSS technology at this year’s GTC 2026. The GPU creators partnered up with a few of the gaming industry giants, including Ubisoft, Capcom, Tencent, Warner Bros Games, and more.
On stage, there were live demos that showcased already released games, but running on the new DLSS 5 tech. These games include Resident Evil: Requiem, Starfield, Hogwarts Legacy, and more.

It has not been a long time since Nvidia actually released their last big iteration of DLSS, which was DLSS 4.5, which sought to bring about the next generation of AI upscaling. DLSS 5 seems to be reaching far too close to the sun, blending “pixels with photoreal lighting and materials.”
The result is not as favorable visually as it might have sounded initially, because it is usually an AI model that is infused into real-time rendering just to extract the uncanny valley of photo realism.
The Internet is shocked at how this tech is making games look
Though all of this does not compare to the bigger picture, which is when we look at how regular gamers reacted to this new visual output. Social media is filled with people bringing back the good old Nvidia DLSS on and off memes.
Some of the other posts are not joking about the new developments. Users are taking the chance to express their disappointment and call out Nvidia, as well as the gaming companies that are in on this.
It can be estimated that the rest of the industry will follow suit, with AMD also announcing its version of the technology. Although DLSS 5 technology is way out in the future right now, the prospects of what the next generation of gaming actually looks like are pretty bleak.
