The setting and atmosphere of Deadlock make it apparent that the cursed apple is not a place for kids to hang out. Regardless, juvenile troublemakers find a way to participate in world-altering supernatural games where everyone is fighting to the death.
We thought highschoolers is atleast where Valve will draw the line. But no, we have a literal child scurrying around the streets participating in the ritual alongside serial killers. But to be honest, part of that absurdity is also what makes Deadlock’s lore so fun.
Meet Rem, a character who was added alongside Old Gods, New Blood update. Like Viscous, he is a supernatural entity who has found his way into the streets of New York. The only difference is that this child is a stowaway from a different plane of existence known as the world of dreams.

Rem packs rocks in his pillows
His reason for participating in the ritual is so that he can find a way back to his home. At first glance, one might wonder if the little guy will be okay when pitted against some of the other terrifying participants.
But we assure you, do not be fooled by his childish looks. Rem packs massive rocks in his pillows, which is an internal joke in the Deadlock community, because getting hit by the pillow can really hurt.

Rem is not fighting alone in the streets of New York. To aid him in the ritual, his small helper friends tag along with him and are also a part of the character’s toolkit. The helpers also look like creatures whose designs were inspired by Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away.
A special hideout exists in the hub for Rem
Being a creature from the land of dreams, Rem has the ability to see what others are dreaming, which allows him to learn vital information that can be helpful, such as learning the Ixian language.
Rem really misses his family back home, and that’s why he often clings to the other characters participating in the ritual. You will often find him calling Haze his mom, Grey Talon his ‘Grandpa,’ and hoping that Vyper can be a ‘cool aunt’.

One Fun fact about Rem is that he is the only character out of the whole Deadlock roster who has his own special room in the hideout hub. And it can be accessed only by Rem for the time being.
