Destiny 2 Pathfinder system explained: How to progress, rewards, and more

Destiny 2’s Pathfinder system has just been introduced with The Final Shape expansion. The system seeks to replace vendor challenges including patrols and bounties, and look to consolidate them under one banner.

With it, you won’t need to travel to different worlds and access the vendors to complete the bounties. You will now be able to access every world’s Pathfinder from your Director, which will then help you save time by cutting down on travel.

This is the new way to gain more XP as you make your way through the world ranks. You will also receive weekly challenges, completing which will let you get your hands on very powerful weapons. Additionally, you will also be able to reset it with Glimmer.

Below is everything you need to know about the new Pathfinder system in Destiny 2’s The Final Shape.

Destiny 2 Pathfinder progression explained

You will be able to access the Pathfinder menu from the Director and then even get access to the Pathfinders of the different worlds.

Once you open the menu, you will see 20 nodes. They will be arranged in a triangle and leading to rewards that you will be able to unlock. There are currently two types of Pathfinders in Destiny 2:

Destination Pathfinders:

  • These are the location-specific objectives that will give you a mission that you will have to complete in a particular world.

Ritual Pathfinders:

  • These are the progression system that unifies some of the previous objectives including:
    • Vanguard
    • Nightfalls
    • Onslaught
    • Gambit
    • Crucible

Each of the nodes is separated into five tiers and to gain the reward present in the last node, you will need to complete objectives in a certain path.

Additionally, you will need to complete atleast one objective in each tier to be able to progress in the path. You will also be able to reset your Pathfinder with Glimmer, to gain more rewards, However, the rarity of these rewards will drop each time you reset it in a given week.

While the Pathfinder will automatically get a weekly reset on Tuesday, you can reset it an unlimited number of times within that week if you have the Glimmer. But the rarity of the rewards will drop (to a certain point) if you are using Glimmer.

Destiny 2 Pathfinder Objectives

The Pathfinder objectives that you will get will primarily be determined by a combination of “authorial control and procedural generation”. So at the start of the weekly reset, every Guardian will have the same objectives for progressing their Pathfinder in Destiny 2.

However, with more resets to the Pathfinder, the player objectives along with the rewards will change. They will get more unique catering to that specific Guardian.

Here are all the rewards that you will be able to obtain in the Destination Pathfinder line:

All Ritual Pathfinder Rewards in Destiny 2

As mentioned, the Ritual Pathfinder integrates all five objectives into itself. Plus you can even streamline the bounties by completing them in one place and not having to travel to different worlds.

Here is a list of the reward pool that this path offers:

CompletionsRewards
First Three CompletionsPrime Engram
Enhancement Prism
150 Bright Dust
25000 XP
Next Seven CompletionsEnhancement Prism
150 Bright Dust

The Ritual Pathfinders that you complete are shared amongst all of the characters in your profile. This will make it much easier to complete your nodes as you will just have to complete it once between the three characters.

Moreover, you will be able to line up the Ritual Pathfinder with Reputation Boosters. This means that if a Gambit Booster is on in a particular week, you will have a lot more Gambit objectives and you will be able to finish the nodes much faster by playing Gambit.

Pathfinder goals in Destiny 2 The Final Shape

‘Bungie introduced the Pathfinder in the expansion to help create a single system for character progression. It gives players multiple ways of how they want to approach the game, without forcing them into certain activities.

This system offers a lot more versatility giving players more agency to get the rewards that they actually want. This significantly lessens the grind that one would have had to invest in previously to get the higher-tier rewards.
