Two and a Half Men star jokes he wanted to commit near-suicide to match Charlie Sheen’s record $2 Million Salary

Even after a decade since officially ending, Two and a Half Men remains as popular as ever, with the show still raking in a lot of money. However, it was only recently that fans got to know about the ridiculous pay disparity that was there between the co-stars, Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer.

Cryer starred in the show for a whole 12 seasons, starting from 2003 to 2015. He was first there alongside Sheen and Augus T. Jones and then later starring with Kutcher when Sheen stepped down in 2011.

It was only after Sheen stepped down that Cryer got a significant raise to his salary, which reached $620,000 per episode. Much of the “behind the scenes” was revealed in the 2025 Netflix documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, where Cryer reveals that he was making just two-thirds of what Sheen whi was raking in $2 million per episode.

However, Cryer does clear things out and states that the disparity did not really bother him all that much; he just found it very interesting that Sheen’s chaotic private life, which is filled with arrests, drugs, and other excesses, helped him make more money in the

“The tumultuousness of his (Sheen’s) personal life, and the court proceedings, and the divorces, and all that stuff. That actually enhanced his negotiating stance. I thought it was very, very funny at the time. And I still find it very notable, because, you know, the deal he negotiated was the single largest pay for an actor in broadcast television history, I believe, and it was because his life was a mess.”

Cryer then goes on to joke about how he thought of committing suicide by “driving a car off a cliff” in hopes of increasing his own salary, but he eventually decided that “the perks of having your life a mess vastly outweigh the monetary advantages.”

He admits that he has been very fortunate that he was able to be a key part of a show like Two and a Half Men, which has been such a big hit that it benefits him even today. He notes that not having to worry about money and constantly thinking about rent every month had transformed how he dealt with things every day.

In a recent exclusive with Page Six, Cryer suggests that,

“The series continues to be a machine that generates an absurd amount of money. But that doesn’t come so much from residual rights. Although residual payments still represent a considerable amount, most of it comes from the fact that, over the years, I’ve managed to secure a percentage stake in the series. It’s incredible not to have to worry about rent every month. The earnings from the series have completely transformed the way I handle things in my day-to-day life. Today, I seek out jobs that truly bring me joy.”

Cryer also admitted that his relationship with Cryer Sheen has been pretty complicated over the years. However, Sheen only had good things to say about his former costar. During a podcast interview with his father, Martin Sheen in 2025, he stated that “I mean, we don’t really hang out or talk, but I love that he showed up for the doc….I thought that was super generous.”
