Fortnite’s Lawless update is nearly here, and this Chapter 6, Season 2 drop brings with it quite a few additions, quality of life improvements and general fixes. Epic Games has already let players preload the update for consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S – not for PC unfortunately), so players should be ready for a maintenance downtime.
Players may encounter a strange error message which informs them that ‘Fortnite won’t update’, which despite its foreboding nature isn’t really much to worry about.
How to fix Fortnite won’t update error for Chapter 6, Season 2 (Lawless)
This particular Fortnite error can be attributed to the servers being offline, or some sort of network problem on your end. You can try the following generic fixes in an attempt to resolve the issue:
Restart your router and check your network connection
Network problems can cause multiple Fortnite update failures, and you should firstly check your internet connection for any breakages. Try restarting your internet router to see if it resolves the issue.
Additionally, it is highly recommended to be using a proper, broadband internet connection instead of relying on spotty cellular data. A wired connection, if possible, over Wi-Fi networks is also recommended.
If you are on Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to the 5 GHz band, and do not have any congestion on the network.
Restart the EGS client and try logging in after some time
Fortnite’s client may often experience some bugs and glitches. Try restarting the Epic Games client to see if it resolves the issue. You can also try logging into the game after a few minutes or longer, assuming the situation improves.
Wait for the maintenance to complete
Fortnite’s servers will be offline for a while until the transition to Lawless is complete. You won’t be able to access the game during this period, which is expected. This could also extend into the download not working at all, mostly due to server congestion issues.
Try restarting the client after the game goes back up. If all else fails, try a full reinstall of the game.
