Lockpicking is essential to progress in most Elder Scrolls games, and the recently released Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is no exception. This useful skill lets you progress through certain parts of the game, unlocking treasures and increasing your monetary gains in the process.
This is all the more important when we take into consideration that certain keys are otherwise inaccessible for most players – making lockpicking the only real solution. More on lockpicking and how to get more locks in this particular RPG below.
How to lockpick in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered

To lockpick in Oblivion Remastered, you will firstly have to acquire a lockpick. Once this particular item has been collected, head to a locked door or chest. Interact with it to immediately begin the lockpicking minigame.
Each lock will come with a series of tumblers, which must be unlocked successively. Begin by inserting the lockpick, and wiggle it around the tumblers to push them in and thereby pick the lock.
Keep an eye out on the springs of each tumbler – press the X button (left-click for PC) as soon as the final spring is compressed. Failing to do so might result in the lockpick being broken, forcing you to restart your progress.
Take your time here, and do not try to brute force the tumblers. Try listening to the sounds made by each tumbler for a finer understanding of the unlocking process. Keep pushing the tumbler up until you hear a distinct, high pitched sound. Once you hear that sound, proceed to pick the lock.
Try investing in the Security skill tree to further boost your lockpicking skills.

- As random loot from goblins and bandits.
- From specific locations in the Thieves Guild. Requires players to be part of the Thieves Guild first.
- Inn of Ill Omen/Manheim Maulhand
- Olav’s Tap and Tack/Ongar the World-Weary
- Three Sisters’ Inn or the Five Claws Lodge/Dar Jee
- The Lonely Suitor Lodge/Luciana Galena
