Atlus has recently revealed all the major changes and additions that are coming to Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance when compared to the base game. There are a plethora of quality-of-life updates, along with the addition of a completely new standalone storyline, new demons, a Demon Haunt feature, and a guest character system featuring Nocturne’s Demi-Fiend.
There will be a lot to unfold when the RPG finally releases on June 14, 2024. From the looks of it so far, it’s gearing up to be one of the best JRPGs of all time.
Below are all the changes that you can look forward to in SMT5 Vengeance.
Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance story options
The new title will feature the new route, the “Cannon of Vengeance”, as well as the “Canon of Creation” as told in the original game.
You will be able to choose which of the scenarios you want to play right after the start of the narrative. Both of them will be standalone stories so pick any one during your first playthrough.
Cannon of Creation
The protagonist will become the Nahobino and play out the Creation route where they bring about the birth of a new world.
Cannon of Vengeance
Will have new female demons of th Qadištu. You will encounter a new NPC Yoko and obtain a new form for Nahobino. This will be a completely new storyline revolving around the intervention of the oppressed worshipers of the serpent.
New Demons (Over 270)
A lot of new demons will be added to the game, many designed by Masayuki Doi, while others have been a part of previous Megaten titles. The total number of demons will be over 270 in SMT5 Vengeance
50 Additional Features and Adjustments coming in SMT5 Vengeance
Here is a list of all the major adjustments and additions that Atlus are bringing to Shin Megami Tensei 5
1) New Magatsuhi Skills (Group Skills)
Magatsuhi is a special energy that can be stored and when the bar is full your demons will be able to execute a powerful Magatsuhi Skill. With Vengeance, SMT5 will have new Magatsuhi Skills which can be used by having certain demons on the team.
Magatsuhi skills can be performed by multiple demons in the party making them significantly more powerful. However, these will require specific demons to activate the skill.
Additionally, the Magatsuhi Skill you will get to activate will depend on your party composition. This opens up a lot of party versatility and combinations that you can opt into.
2) Innate Skills
Demons will also come with Innate Skills alike elemental affinities which can help boost the effect of their Magatsuhi Skills or normal attacks. These Innate abilities activate automatically in battle and can be incredibly effective against certain types of enemies in the RPG.
3) Magatsuhi demons
Magatsuhi demons will be formidable enemies who will randomly appear in Da’at. When you defeat them you will be able to get Incense which will help improve the status of your demons.
4) Magatsu Rails
This is the new movement feature introduced in SMT5 Vengeance. The rails are connecting points that will let you fast travel between various points in Da’at. When you activate them you will create a shortcut between the locations and even gain access to hidden areas which will normally not be reachable.
5) Level Cap Unlock
When certain conditions are met you will be able to raise the level limit of the Nahobino and his party to 150. You can use this in conjunction with Incense to boost party stats and have a more versatile party of demons.
6) Virtual Trainer
Virtual Trainer is the new Bonus Challenge system in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance. It will let you face off against a series of bosses that you encounter during the game.It’s a boss rush mode going upto a max level of 999.
7) Guest characters
In “Canon of Vengeance” you will have your human NPCs fighting alongside you as allies.
8) Demi-Fiend joins the Party
If certain conditions are met, the Demi-Fiend from SMT Nocturne will join you as a guest character. Complete Return of the True Demon subquest to recruit him.
9) Demon Haunts (Conversations with Demons)
The new Demon Haunts features will let you enjoy conversations with your demons. There will also be special conversations when you give them gifts. Gifts will usually be items that you obtain from Da’at and help in improving your bonds with your favorite demons. Improved bonds can also potentially improve their stats.
Apart from conversing with demons, you will be able to hold conversations with the various NPCs in the SMT 5 Vengeance as well. Guest characters will appear depending on the progression you have made which will primarily include field exploration, important battles, and narrative milestones.
Completing conversations with guest characters will often net you items or other rewards.
Additionally, you will be able to talk to Aogami by interacting with the bench located in the Demon Haunts. Special conversations with Aogami can occur at times which will help enhance the Nahobino’s abilities.
There will also be a free camera mode when you visit the Huants. You will be able to use this feature to take pictures of your demons and other NPC allies.
10) Consecutive Encounters
Consecutive Encounters are when enemy reinforcements will appear during a battle and will occur if you are being chased by multiple foes. Beating them all will give you more experience and Macca than usual.
11) Variations in Demon Conversations
There will be new variations in Demon conversations including surprise quizzes and demons also escaping after getting a gift.
12) Adjustment of demon conversations on “Mercy”
Conversations where demons beg for mercy will occur more often during battles. A Miracle has also been added where the Nahobino will be able to demand Incense from cornered demons.
13) Stat reset items for Nahobino introduced
A new ability has been added which will reshuffle the parameters of the protagonist. You will be able to do this by using the “New Testament Tablet” in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance.
14) Dyad Compendium Fusion added
The new feature will let you fuse a demon who is in your possession with demon who is in the compendium.
15) More Fusion Accident options
Some demons have been added who can only be created through Fusion accidents. Naobino will also gain access to Miracle which will greatly increase the rate of getting accidents.
16) New Shinjuku Ward added in Da’at
A new location called the Shinjuku Ward has been added to the “Cannon of Vengeance”. This area will have many additional areas to explore including parks and dilapidated buildings.
17) New Dungeon: Shakan
A new dungeon Shakan has is also being added with the “Cannon of Vengeance”. The dungeon will feature new exploration mechanics.
18) Aogami Husks
An “Aogami-Type Essence” can be obtained from the “Aogami Husks”. These are scattered throughout the netherworld and as they respawn after some time, you can collect them as many times as you want.
19) Abscess Obstruction Removed
In the base SMT5, there were portions of the map that were not seen if an Abscesses was not destroyed. In Vengeance the new map will be viewed in full.
20) Fewer flying demon encounters
Changes have been made where attacks from flying demons on the field must always take place within the frame. Making exploration easier.
21) Obtainianble range of relics expanded on
The type of relics you can get from vendin machines have been doubled.
22) Height difference indication to the map added
New color coding to the map will denote the height level indication making exploration easier.
23) Additional Quest Navigators
Quest navigators have been increased from 6 to 17. There will now be more demons who will help the Nahobino complete main and side content during their journey.
24) Quet Navigator now has highlight effects when moving
This update will highlight the movement of the quest navigators and make a pillar of light emulate from their arrival point.
25) First Strike Adjustment
New improvement allos you to gain an initiative in battle in Shin Megami Tensei 5 even if you are detected by an enemy,
26) Miracle toggle system
You will now be able to turn a Mircale on/off based on the situation.
27) Tutorial Recap system
You can revisit the tutorial system at any given time by opening the menu.
28) New Sub Quests
More subquests have been added. Instead of just beating enemies or collecting items, some subquests will ask you to take control of a demon in time-sensitive events.
29) Some subquests will have destination indications
A quality-of-life feature where some subquests will have a destination indicator on the map.
30) Mitigation to level difference adjustments
There will be a new damage adjustment by level difference which has been made more moderate to make it easier to take down tougher foes.
31) Auto-Skill
A new feature under the Auto-Attack mode where your party will automatically use the skill that the enemy is weak to.
32) More control options
Changes to control options allows more adjustments to stick operation sensitivity and key assignments.
33) Expanded options for graphics
Added the ability to adjust and change brightness, contrast, and more
34) Double speed settings for skill cutscenes
Another quality-of-life feature where the skill animations occur faster. You can even skip the animation altogether.
35) Added information on a character’s Essence
When you hover over a demon, you will now be able to see if they carry a demon’s Essence.
36) Enhancements to Essence Screen
You will be able to search for Essence by the skill that you want. A mark has also been an Essence that can be purchased from the store.
37) Enhanced Sorting Functionality
You will be able to now sort demons by reverse fusion, purchasable Essences, or more.
38) Get gifts or learn skills via fusion
Gift-giving and learning new skills will happen during fusion as well and not during normal level-ups.
39) More Compendium enhancements
Demon Compendium data can now be “Original” or “Custom” in Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance.
40) Estoma Field
The skill to avoid enemy encounters called Estoma will no longer be affected by th new moon and will consume Magatsuhi instead of MP. You can toggle this feature on/off.
41) New Sky View feature
You will now be able to look around from above while exploring Da’at.
42) New Landmark function added to the map
You will now be able to place desired markers in different locations on the map.
43) Transmission of obstacles in the field
The camera will now be able to see through obstacles in order to prevent 3D sickness.
44) Map icon On/Off function
You will now be able to individually turn map icons On/Off
45) Minimap Rotation
A new option has been added where you will be able to to rotate the mini-map to match the camera.
46) Added recommended level indications for subquests
Subquests will now have level indications which will tell you when you should be tackling the mission.
47) Batch use of growth items
Status-enhancing and other items can be used all at once
48) Improved experience items
The level-up process that usually took place after a battle will now happen immediately after the use of an experience item.
49) Save anywhere
Another quality-of-life feature which will let you save anywhere in Shin Megami Tensei 5, as long as you are out of combat.
50) Godborn: New Game Plus feature
This is the extreme difficulty mode that has been unlocked after fulfilling certain conditions. When activated, the level of the enemy demons is raised to 150. Here you can buy incense with the use of Macca.
