“April fools was like 2 weeks” Rumors of a Disney characters based extraction shooter is making rounds on the internet

The biggest rumor around the gaming community is of a Disney character-based extraction shooter right now. As crazy as it sounds, we will be able to see the likes of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck in a shooter video game scenario.

It is not all that unlikely because the AAA gaming industry is always looking to shoot for the live service shooter model. Even if we have seen some of the most expensive developments fail in recent times, making studios shut down and employees laid off.

The supposed rumor comes after an article published by Bloomberg hinted at Epic Games tying up with Disney to make an extraction shooter. Epic Games already has a substantial relationship with Disney for their collaborations in Fortnite so it is not out of the ordinary for this to happen.

Disney had a $1.5 billion deal with Epic a while ago

This is not going to be Disney’s first foray into video games. If you are an old-time gamer, besides the film tie-in Disney classic platformers, the major mass media company is also known for one of the most important video game franchises in existence.

We are, of course, talking about the Kingdom Hearts franchise, which should be getting more news anytime right now. One other neat piece that came out of the rumor is that the gameplay for this supposed extraction shooter is very much inspired by Arc Raiders. Which is one of the most praised in the genre.

Epic Games is currently developing three other games, which are in the process of internal reviews and development. Out of all of them, the Disney one is rumored to be the most promising, but some are worried that the genre might be a bit saturated for the current market.

Kingdom Hearts 4 fans need a shoulder to cry on

Online reaction around the rumor has taken an interesting shape, with most users scratching their heads about seeing Mickey Mouse running around with a massive gun. Users on Twitter/X have been constantly posting memes about it.

There’s also the side of gamers who have been patiently waiting for an update on the next Kingdom Hearts from Square Enix. Unfortunately, too much time has passed, and some of them are losing their grasp on reality.

Disney had already invested close to $1.5 billion into Epic Games to create its own ecosystem in the “games and entertainment universe”. So far, it seems like the first of its invested projects is going to take flight soon, but what will matter is how they land in this hostile market that is fed up with live service.
