Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes the franchise to Japan with a ton of new content and achievements for you to check out. However, the basics remain the same as you’d still want to unlock and upgrade the best weapons and armor in the game for smooth progress.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Way of the Blacksmith quest walkthrough & Heiji’s location
Unlocking the forge is necessary in Assaassin’s Creed Shadows to upgrade your weapons and armor. The ‘Way of the Blacksmith’ quest grants you the ability to do so, and here’s a walkthrough:
The clues to find Heiji include southwestern Izumi Settsu, Sakai, and the east of the Sakai port. You can rely on scouts but we’ve marked down the NPC’s exact location in the image below:
There are a bunch of houses in the area so it’s best to go on rooftops and confirm his exact location through the blue marker. Four enemies surround the NPC so make sure to take them out through stealth or wrath.
Then, talk to Heiji who’ll hand you another task. You’ll have to collect these resources to be able to build The Forge in the game:
- 40 Crops
- 30 Wood
- 10 Minerals
These are some of the most basic materials available almost everywhere in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Looting the barrels in the location where you save Heiji can help you get minerals and for the rest, you can go about looting nearby camps and castles or completing contracts.
Once you’re done with the quest, head back to your Hideout and choose the Improve Hideout option in front of the region’s small 3D map. Open the build menu and in the second row under Main Rooms, you’ll find the Forge.
How to upgrade weapons and armor
Now that you’ve added the Forge to your base, upgrading weapons and armor is as simple as choosing the right character between Naoe and Yasuke and then talking to Heiji. The UI that appears will reveal all the available upgrades for your weapons and armor.
