The best Spirits in Black Myth Wukong have some of the most incredible Active and Equipped effects. When used right, and with the right loadout of skills, they will be able to make most encounters significantly easier.
With over 80 bosses to look forward to in the action-adventure game, you will want to know which Spirits are going to make the end-game progression more manageable.
Here is a list of some of the best Spirits in Black Myth Wukong that you should be looking to get your hands on.
The best Spirits you should be getting in Black Myth Wukong
1) Wandering Wight

- Location: Chapter 1- Outside the Shrine
- Activation effect: Ram your foe with your bronze skull.
- Equipped effect: Considerably increases defense.
While it’s one of the first Spirits that you get to absorb right after beating the Wandering Wight boss and unlocking the Blessed Gourd it’s still a great choice for the early-to-mid game progression.
The Spirit’s defensive capabilities will make the initial encounters a lot easier. If you are struggling with some of the content, the Wandering Wight will make things much more manageable if you have it equipped.
When activated, you will unleash a big headbutt on your enemy. While the attack range is not that big, the damage it does is immense and you can use it to even stagger bosses after they just used a heavy attack that has a long recovery period.
2) Centipede Guai

- Location: Chapter 4 – Regardless of the path you take as you head deeper into the Hollows, you should eventually reach the Bonevault where you beat the boss to get the Spirit,
- Activation effect: Curl your body into a giant ball and collide with nearby foes.
- Equipped effect: Slightly increases movement speed.
This Spirit will let you catch the enemy off-guard by making the Destined One turn into a giant ball and then ram into them. It has a very long range, and you can even use it close the distance.
It’s perfect against both standard enemies and bosses, and the Active effect has the potential to stagger them out of channeling an ability.
Moreover, if you have it equipped you will get a significant boost to your movement speed. This will make it much easier to dodge incoming attacks and then follow up on your combos if the enemy is looking to retreat.
3) Guangmou

- Location: Chapter 1 – In a wide clearing near the Bamboo Grove Snake Trail.
- Activation effect: Summon vipers that spit poison at your target.
- Equipped effect: Moderately increases poison damage and poison resistance.
The Guangmou Spirit is great at inflicting poison on the enemy in Black Myth Wukong. Once they are inflicted with the status effect they will take continuous damage from it over a period of time.
Their HP will keep ticking down, and it’s a great tool for winning a war of attrition against a boss that you are having a hard time beating. Even when the vipers are not out, as long as the enemy is affected by it, their health will keep chipping down.
Additionally, having the Spirit equipped will automatically increase your poison damage as well as poison resistances. It’s going to be the perfect choice against enemies that either inflict a lot of poison damage or are themselves vulnerable to it.
4) Mountain Patroller

- Location: Chapter 3 – After your first battle with the Macaque Chief, make your way up the steps and turn left past the gate. The enemy with blue flames here turns into a spirit.
- Activation effect: Leap up and rain down a flurry of slashes.
- Equipped effect: Slightly increases the critical hit chance of jumping heavy attacks.
The Mountain Patroller is one of the best Spirits to pick if you are looking to increase your offensive capabilities in Black Myth Wukong. The Activation effect is one of the coolest in the game, and when used, you will jump up in the air and then perform a series of slashes on the enemy.
It does a lot of damage and is capable of staggering bosses when used right. Moreover, when you have it equipped, the Spirit will help increase your critical hit chance when performing a jumping heavy.
So if you are going for a playstyle that relies on jumping and bonking the enemy on the head then this will be the perfect Spirit to equip.
5) Apramana Bat

- Location: Chapter 3 – When you reach the North Shore of the Bitter Lake, keep following the right-hand side of the beach. Then make your way to the area with the giant serpent’s bones.
- Activation effect: Leap into the air to evade attacks, then send forth gusts of wind. The target can be frozen in place if their frost gauge is maxed.
- Equipped effect: None.
While the Apramana Bat Spirit may not have an Equipped effect, what makes it a great pick for the mid-to-late game progression is how it can freeze enemies with the Active effect. Moreover, it will also let you evade an incoming attack by leaping into the air.
So if an enemy rushes at you with an ability, you can evade it entirely and then counter it with gusts of cold wind. These winds deal a lot of Frost Damage and can freeze the enemy if their frost gauge is maxed out.
It’s perfect at CC-ing the enemy and can help make certain boss encounters significantly easier.
6) Clay Vajra

- Location: Chapter 3 – The boss guards the steps that lead to the main hall in New Thunderclap Temple.
- Activation effect: Spew flames from your knees; the flames twist with each step and burn surrounding hostiles.
- Equipped effect: Moderately increases burn resistance.
The Clay Vajra is all about dealing AoE damage and taking out multiple enemies in one go if you are swarmed. When activated you will start spewing flames from your knees which then twist and burn enemies all around you in a radius.
In the later chapters, you will often get ganked on by multiple mobs. So Spirits that cater to countering single targets are not going to be a good idea when dealing with them.
The Clay Vajra will make it much easier to grind your way through mobs in Chapters 4 and 5 of Black Myth Wukong.
7) Earth Wolf

- Location: Chapter 2 – You will need to go around the houses in Sandgate Village until you arrive at an open field behind the main gate.
- Activation effect: Recklessly charge at your foe to make them stumble.
- Equipped effect: Grants a small amount of additional focus on hit.
The Earth Wolf’s Activation effect does a ton of damage as you charge at the foe infront of you trampling them. This can be used in conjunction with the Immobilize spell so that the enemy is not able to dodge out of the attack.
While having it equipped you also gain a small amount of Focus on hit, which can be the difference maker in a tough fight.
How does the Spirit mechanic work in Black Myth Wukong
If you are having a hard time understanding the Spirit mechanic in the game, here are a few tips that can help you out:
1) Spirit Equipped
When you equip a Spirit you will gain stat boosts and passive effects. You will not have to actively use it to gain the buffs.
2) Spirit Active
Each Spirit has a unique Activation effect. When you activate an equipped spirit you will be able to transform into it and cast its spells and abilities. However, abilities will cost Qi to use.
3) Spirit Cultivation
When you interact with a Keeper’s Shrine you will be able to select the Self Advance feature to Cultivate Spirits. This feature lets you upgrade them and through this, you will be able to lower their Qi cost, extend the effect duration, or even increase the damage that they do.
However, Cultivating Spirits will cost resources like the Blood of the Iron Bull and Knot of Voidness, so make sure you are farming them along with Yaoguai cores.
