Certain Spirits when absorbed will let you have some of the best transformations in Black Myth Wukong. When used, you will get to turn into the boss that the spirit belongs to and gain access to a new set of techniques, spells, skills, and passive effects.

Best transformations in Black Myth Wukong
1) Red Tides: Wolf Guai
How to unlock:
- Chapter 1: You will need to fight the boss named Guangzhi very early on in the narrative. You will get the transformation after beating him.
Unique talent:
- Moon Roam: Each level increases the damage of your next attack following a perfect dodge; up to three ranks.
Transformation trait
- All attacks build up Scorch Bane.
Abilities:
- Light attack: Moon Dance – Continuously slash at an enemy while building up focus.
- Heavy attack: Moon Chase – Unleash a series of dash attacks. At full focus, dodging in any direction and following up with a dodge triggers a powerful new move.
When using this transformation you will transform into the Wolf Guai in Black Myth Wukong. It’s one of the best transformations in the early game as it comes with fast-paced light attacks that deal Scorch Bane.
The attacks also build up the Focus meter which will let you do a fire cycle attack after a perfect dodge. The transformation is amazing at complimenting a dodge-heavy playstyle and you will also be able to increase the damage of your attacks after a successful dodge.
2) Ashen Slumber: Rat Guai
How to unlock:
- Chapter 2: Obtained as a part of the rat NPC questline whom you find in a barricaded house after beating the First and Second Rat Princes. You will need to beat the Third Prince after completing the Pagoda Realm questline to get the Ashen Slumber Transformation.
Unique Talent:
- Rage Burst: Each talent level slightly increases scorch damage; has six ranks.
Transformation trait:
- Attacks build up scorch bane.
Abilities:
- Light attack: Chop Wood – Swing your iron blade several times to build up focus.
- Heavy attack: Blow Fire – Hold the heavy attack button to spew scorching flames.
- Spell: Fiery Burst – Cause your shapeshifted form to explode, which also makes you de-transform. The explosion deals massive AoE fire damage.
The Ashen Slumber is amazing at dealing brun damage on the enemy. It’s scorch build-up is very high and will be able to help you take out mobs of enemies very easily.
The Fiery Burst spell in particular can be used as a finisher against a boos. When the transformation spell is about to run out, you can use Fiery Burst to deal massive fire damage before reverting back to your base form.
3) Hoarfrost: Monk from the Sea
How to unlock:
- Chapter 3: Once you reach the New Thunderclap Temple you will need to follow the path to the right-hand side. The boss will emerge from the alter that overlooks the plaza. Beat it to get the transformation.
Unique Talent:
- Snow Veil: Each level slightly increases the frost damage that you deal; up to six ranks.
Transformation trait:
- Attacks inflict Frost bane.
Abilities:
- Light attack: Tentacle Flick – Hit enemies with your tentacles to increase focus.
- Heavy attack: Tentacle Sweep – Do a swinging motion with your tentacles to gain more focus.
- Spell: Ice Sheet – Use the focus that you’ve amassed to create an area covered in ice, which inflicts frost bane on targets within the AoE. Using Light and Heavy attacks when standing on snow also triggers various effects as well:
- Light attack: Snowball Fight
- Heavy attack: Avalanche
The Hoarfrost is considered to be the best transformation for inflicting the Frost bane on enemies. When you use its spell Ice Sheet you cover a large area below and around you in snow. Enemies standing on it will receive the Frost Bane status effect.
Additionally, if you are standing on your Ice Sheet or even on the snow-covered fields found in and after Chapter 3, the Light and Heavy attacks of the transformation will be different. This will help you bring some versatility to your playstyle when progressing.
4) Violet Hail: Worm Guai
How to unlock:
- Chapter 4: In order to get this transformation in Black Myth Wukong you will first need to unlock the secret area in Chapter 4. You will then beat the boss Daoist Mi to unlock this transformation in the game
Unique talent:
- Filthy Malice: Each level slightly increases poison damage; up to six ranks.
Transformation trait:
- Immunity to poison; attacks inflict poison bane; self-wounding and self-healing mechanic.
Abilities:
- Light attack: Slash – Hit your opponent with your blade.
- Heavy attack: Self-Torment – Wound yourself (slightly depletes HP) to imbue your blade with up to four larvae. Each light attack you do afterward infests an enemy with larvae.
- Spell: Hive Mind – Command all larvae to explode and deal instant damage; absorb part of the hatched swarm to recover lost health.
- Spell: Detonation – The de-transforming command also automatically causes all larvae to explode.
If you are going for a playstyle that revolves around inflicting poison status effect then the Violet Hail will be one of the best choices in Black Myth Wukong. It pairs perfectly well with the Poison Ward Centipede armor which is considered one of the best armor sets in the game.
The poison gameplay features a very high-risk high-reward playstyle where you rely on hurting yourself while maximizing your damage against the enemy. It’s one of the more difficult playstyles to pick up, but once mastered most difficult boss encounters will become significantly easier.
5) Azure Dome: Stone Monkey
How to unlock:
- Secret ending: The Azure Dome transformation is something you will get as a part of the true ending in Black Myth Wukong, where you go up against Erlang Shen and the Four Heavenly Kings, and obtain the Azure Dome transformation once you take them out.
Unique talent:
- Indestructible: Considerably increases Four Banes resistance; this talent node requires six points to activate.
Transformation trait:
Immunity to shock and poison; convert frost and scorch to empower yourself; can cast spells.
Abilities:
- Light attack: Primal Punch – Unleash a flurry of punches to build up focus.
- Heavy attack: Earthshatter Slam – Leap into the air and crash down on your opponent; partially restore your health.
- Spells: Monkey Mind – Based on the spells equipped you will be able to cast a variety of speAllows you to cast a variety of them. Certain spells will also imbue your fists with ice and fire increasing the damage of your normal attacks.
The Azure Dome transformation is incredibly powerful and can be considered to be the best in the game especially when you are going for NG+ runs. Unlocking it is the difficult part as you will have to obtain a secret ending where you will need to beat Erlang Shen and the Four Heavenly Kings.
It comes with a good balance between offense and defense and with it you will be able to plough through most enemies in NG+.
