Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree introduces some truly phenomenal weapons in the early moments of the DLC. While you may be tempted to just stick to what made you successful in the base game, there are too many great weapons to just ignore these new offerings. After all, there are several new weapon types in the DLC, such as Perfume Bottles, Beast Claws, and Reverse-hand Swords. Why not try some of these out?
We aren’t suggesting these are the best weapons to carry you all the way through Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. With enough skill, you certainly could, but these are just weapons you should consider seeking out in the beginning of the DLC. We’ll let you know where to find them, and what makes them special.
Best early game Weapons in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree and where to find them
1) Great Katana

If you want a weapon in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree that has an incredible moveset, and scales with Strength and Dexterity, the Great Katana is for you. Found on a corpse near the Ghostflame Dragon, this weapon combines fast attack animations with the bulk of a great sword. This boss is west of the Abandoned Ailing Village’s Site of Grace.
It excels at breaking Poise, making it easily one of the best weapons to pick up in the early moments of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
2) Milady

Speaking of great weapons, Milady is a Light Greatsword found in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring. It almost looks like a gigantic rapier, and is another excellent Strength/Dexterity weapon.
Early in Castle Ensis, you’ll cross a bridge, and then head along the main path, before going to the southwest. You’ll find Milady in a chest, after climbing a wooden ladder along one of the towers. This weapon is fast and devastating – a blend of Longsword and Greatsword.
3) Firespark Perfume Bottle

The Firespark Perfume Bottle is easily one of our favorite new weapon types in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. While it looks like a magical attack, it’s a Dexterity weapon, and is for players that want a Dex build and strong Fire damage at the same time.
You can find it in an encampment at the front of Castle Ensis. This prized weapon is in a treasure chest, guarded by two Perfumers, and a Messmer Soldier. It’s on the east side of the camp – you can just ignore the enemies, and grab the item if you want. This Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree weapon swings large gouts of flame about in front of your character, in nice, wide arcs. Having at least one of the new Perfume Bottles will show you why they’re so fun to use.
4) Smithscript Dagger

Among the new weapon types in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree are Throwing Blades. This one in particular is a bit out of the way, but it’s worth having. South-southeast of Castle Ensis, you’ll find the Ruined Forge Lava Intake.
If you want a fast-swinging dagger you can also throw, head here, and get to work. You can find this weapon on a corpse in the room with all the lava, below the lever that activates the forge’s mechanism. It’s a remarkably fun piercing weapon. Swinging it counts as a melee strike, and a ranged attack since it shoots daggers off into the distance.
5) Beast Claws

We don’t mean the Incantation – Beast Claws are also a new Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree weapon type. These Strength and Dexterity weapons are fun to use for close-range combat and are pretty easy to find as well.
Once you get to the Gravesite Plain Site of Grace, head southeast until you find an enemy named Logur the Beast Claw. Defeat him, and claim the claws as your prize. It’s a fast, aggressive moveset that makes you feel more like a wild animal. It’s definitely worth experiencing.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree may be incredibly challenging, but it’s also rewarding to experience. Whether you’re into finding rare weapons, or taking on the hardest bosses around, there’s always something interesting to find out in this massive new map FromSoftware introduced.
