As you start your journey in the Land of Shadow in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, you will come across a lot of amazing spells that have made their way with the DLC. The new expansion is significantly harder than the base game, however, some of these new spells and incantations can make progression a bit easier.
With so many spells to pick from it can be difficult to sort out the ones that you will find useful when clearing the initial hurdles. This is why the list below will go over some of the best early game spells and incantations in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree and where to find them.
5 Best early game spells and incantations in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree and where to find them
1) Heal from Afar incantation

Heal from Afar is one of the best healing incantations that you can get early on in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. It will allow you to fire a projectile and greatly heal an ally’s HP if they are in the blast radius.
It’s a great tool for healing yourself or an ally who is far away and can be an asset if you are going for a paladin build.
You will be able to find the incantation by the foot of an underground golden tree. Head to the cave path which is located at the base of Rauh Ruins. To reach the ruins themselves you will need to head north and then northeast from the Moorth Ruins in Scadu Altus.
2) Aspect of the Crucible: Thorns incantation

The Aspect of the Crucible: Thorns will create a mass of bristling thorns on your back. You will then start rolling around dealing damage in a small AoE. The Incantation is great at clearing out mob clusters in the open world and in dungeons.
You will be able to obtain this incantation as a drop after defeating the Golden Hippopotamus. You will find this boss near the Shadowkeep Main Gate, after going up the elevator. It’s not too hard to take down once you learn its movesets.
3) Glintblade Trio spell

The Glintblade Trio is another great early game spell in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. You can use it to create three Glintblades that seek the enemy and deal a lot of damage. This can be a great pick for hybrid Int builds where you need to chip out enemies from afar.
You will find the Glintblade Trio spell by looting a corpse in Castle Ensis. You will need to pass through the iron gate that is in the midpoint of the caste and then drop off the side of a cliff (be careful with the drop as it’s easy to plunge to your death).
Once you stick the landing you will find a ladder going up to the rooftops. Take it and then drop down again to the north side of the roof. You will see a corpse there hanging off the side of a ledge. Interact with it to get the spell.
4) Ghostflame Breath incantation

The Ghostflame Breath is a Dragon Communion Incantation that will let you channel the power of the Ghostflame Drgon and spew ghostflame infront of you in a large AoE. If you rely on Dragon Breath incantations in your build, then this is definitely one of the best spells that you should be picking up early.
To get the incantation, you will need to purchase it from the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion. You will find the altar in the Southern Shore region, to the west of the Finger Ruins of Rhia.
You will need 3x Dragon Hearts to buy it, so make sure you have killed enough Drakes and Magma Wyrms along the way to have the required amount.
5) Rings of Spectral Light spell

Rings of Spectral Light is an amazing sorcery spell for those maxing Int and Faith. When used, you will create and fire rings of dim spectral light which fire in unison.
It’s one of the best spells that you can spam if the enemy is distracted by your summon. The spell is also amazing at taking down larger targets, who will find it difficult to dodge through the rings.
You can get the spell in Charo’s Hidden Grave. It’s on the ground by the giant bird statue and you might need to beat several birds to get there.
These are currently the best spells and incantations that you can get early in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. You will gain access to even more powerful spells as you eventually make your way to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr in FromSoftware‘s latest DLC.
