Clair Obscur Expedition 33 boss guide
While bosses in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 are incredibly challenging, the strategy against them is rather simple, and there are just a couple of things that you will need to keep in mind to make the encounter easier:
1) Learn the enemy attack patterns by heart
Most bosses will come with a maximum of 3-4 attack patterns, which they will cycle between. Each of the moves has a tell, so you will know what’s coming next. Once you have learn these patterns by heart, you will then be able to dodge and parry them when you get the timings right. This will allow you to avoid any sort of damage coming towards you.
2) Parry over Dodge
While the Parry window is significantly lower than Dodge, it’s still best to master the Parry mechanic in the game. While allowing you to receive no damage from the enemy, parry also lets you counter them (once you have parried every attack in the combo) with a devastating attack. The Counter Mechanic makes most encounters significantly more manageable and does not make the bosses feel like giant damage sponges.
3) Exploit enemy weakness
Every enemy comes with a particular weakness. This can either be a weakness to a particular element, or a particular type of attack (like flying enemies take more damage from ranged attacks). Exploiting these will allow you to make a lot of encounters much easier. Moreover, you will find certain enemies that have a glowing orb for a core in a specific body location. You can shoot this at the start of the encounter to immediately chunk them for a lot of HP.
4) Weave Party abilities together
Party members have certain abilities that complement each other. For example, Gustave has a skill that applies the Marked debuff on the enemy, now Lune can exploit that with Immolate by applying 2 stacks of burn. There are multiple such combos that you will be able to tap into the more you explore the game and level your party members up. If you are enjoying Clair Obscur Expedition 33 on the higher difficulties, it’s important to have a firm grasp of how these characters complement each other with their various abilities.
