Bungie’s Destiny 2 has seen great success in recent years, which has in turn pushed the developer to newer ventures, drawn in by the lucrative world of mobile gaming.
Destiny Rising is the newest entry in the Destiny universe, offering a standalone campaign and game world in collaboration with NetEase Games. The game is being developed as a futuristic space shooter, with a yet undisclosed plot and set of protagonists.
The game is licensed from Bungie, and is set in an alternative timeline – past the Dark Age era of Destiny 2‘s campaign.
The Game Awards creator and host Geoff Keighley detailed more on the game’s modes and lore, which includes the following points of interest:
- Destiny Rising is playable in both first and third person modes – although the exact nature of these differing modes is yet to be detailed.
- Does not take place in the current, ongoing timeline of Destiny 2.
- 6 player co-op, with PvP and PvE modes will be available.
- A separate campaign will also be available for players to enjoy.
The lore seemingly follows a similar path to Bungie’s already existing Destiny 2, albeit with certain deviations in place – which should be revealed in due time.
A closed alpha will be released in November 2024, with plans on releasing the title with a free to play model during its official launch.
