How to romance an NPC
To successfully be able to romance a character, you will have to ensure that they’re in your party. While they’re with you, you’ll be offered several choices in the form of conversations.
Here’s where the games’ approval system comes in. Whenever you select a dialogue, if it aligns the interests of anyone on your party, you’ll see a notification saying that <NPC> approves.
If they don’t agree with you, then you’ll see a notification that says <NPC> disapproves. As you progress through the conversation, you’ll see icons beside the dialogue choices on the wheel.
In some cases, you might see a heart icon, signifying a romantic response, and in others you might see a broken heart icon or an arrow icon, indicating heartbreak or a major decision in the story respectively.
There are other icons that you will come across too, signifying various emotional states, and in some cases, a brain icon which indicates a knowledge-related response.
The key to any successful romance in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is ensuring that you increase your approval rating with the character you intend to engage in a romantic relationship with.
Once you’ve gained a high approval rating, you’ll unlock romantic dialogue options. If you keep selecting these options, you’ll finally unlock romantic cutscenes with that said character.
If you, however, don’t pay attention to your companion, the romance might end prematurely, and you may get locked out of this particular branch for the rest of your playthrough.
